Default my pvp builds...comments?

i'm not too into pvp, but have been compelled to do it with these w/e's we've had of late...plus, it breaks the monotony of title-grinding in pve..anyway, this is the build i vary for AB and RA:

AB(R)
[expert's dexterity](e)
[distracting shot]
[savage shot]
[point blank shot]
[needling shot]
[pin down]
[whirling defense]
[zojun's haste]

RA[R/Me]
[expert's dexterity](e)
[distracting shot]
[savage shot]
[leech signet]
[screaming shot]
[needling shot]
[whirling defense]
[resurrection signet]

for both: atts - marks 12+1+2, exp 12+1, rest in inspiration for RA
armor - major marks (+ head), minor exp, major vigor, all radiant/attunement

barbed bow of fortitude
+30 spear/shield defensive set for retreating

i'm not pvp pro, so not offended by criticism so long as its constructive...tyvm in advance

The builds could be allot better.

for RA:
Magebane Shot/burning arrow/incendary arrows
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Troll what ever its called
Mend Touch
Natural Stride
Rez sig.

for AB same thing just id highly recomend the elite being Incendary and drop rez sig for sloth hunter's.

And for your gear use 10+1+1/2 marks
12+2 expertese
8+1 wilderness
the rest in prot for mend touch
best vig you can afford
2 vitea
and then full survivors insigs.

you know, i think a lot of people think needling shot is good because they don't know what it does. really, it's a horrible skill. just like flare.

it doesn't hit for +xx damage, just a set xx damage.

also, preparations. they're pretty great, you should try them out.

Thats the general wiki build, but theres an Experts build that works quite well. Glass arrows is also good for damage.

In regard to ur build:

Zojuns Haste is pretty crap, id prefer dash in ab because 50% speed boost basically 50% of the time is better then 33% speed boost 1/3 of the time.

Id run lightning reflexes instead of whirling defence because you atleast still get the IAS out of it.

You should bring a preparation since you arent using one. Read the wind is good for damage.

I personally wouldnt bother with point blank shot or needling shot. Drop one for a preparation, and bring sloth hunters shot as the other due to its good damage.

One thing to note is that these builds dont have much survivability.

Final thing:

Run either 12+1+1 expertise and 12+1 marks, or 12+2 marks if you want the major rune. The breakpoint for all 10 energy skills is 14 exp, and extra damage from weapon attribute increases at a decreasing rate after 12.

This is from an RA perspective since I very very rarely AB. Honestly I'm not sure if you even need another stance since Expert's Dexterity lasts 19 seconds with a 20 recharge at 14 Expertise. If you do bring another one, both Lightning Reflexes and Natty Stride are better than Whirling since you either get IAS or IMS respectively along with blocking, and blocking is always good for using a res sig or whatever.

And like has been said, learn to love Apply Poison and Read the Wind. They're pretty useful.

Pretty much just listen to what everyone else said and you'll do fine with some practice.

Yep, armor ignoring damage that can be increased substantially through preps, spirits, weapons, and enchantments, as well as trigger daze effects at insane rates is exactly like flare. While none of these benefits fully justify its usage in PvP outside of very obscure and often useless builds, there's no way you should lump the skill in with the likes of flare, because its power is incredible in PvE HM.

Anyway, back to the OP. The RA/AB ranger has pretty much become nothing but the PvX copy paste builds, and for a good reason. The [insert choice of elite][d-shot][savage shot][apply poison][mending touch][nat stride][troll ung][res sig] has pretty much become a staple in strength, ease of use and flexibility in a ranger build. Covering everything from offense, to defense, to shutdown, to self heal, to self reliability, the build doesn't tend to differ much from elite to elite, and pretty much speaks for itself. If you're new to PvP, just go with the tried and true.

Here's a good Ranger build:
Expert's Dexterity
Read the Wind
Savage Shot
D-Shot
Sloth Hunter's Shot
Debilitating Shot
in RA: Troll Unguent or Natural Stride
in AB: Natural Stride & Trolls
Resurrection Signet in RA

It's very spammy, but it fires near unavoidable arrows, one of which can drain energy bars on their Monk / Rit backline faster than you would think.

thanks for all of the great feedback everyone, it's very much appreciated...in response to some of the comments: i chose whirling over lighting reflexes cuz the IAS is covered by near-constant Expert's Dexterity.....i find troll in RA to be very awkward cuz by the time u actually need it ur being pummeled by war's, hex-stacked by mes's and raped by sins..i still like w/d for RA, 17 sec duration of 75% blocks is pretty good. I find pin-down to be very useful in AB, but i'll try debilitating and will def replace needling with sloth's. Ty again for the comments.

1) use troll right before you engage the other team, not as your are taking damage (u are asking for it to be interrupted otherwise).

2) Lightning reflexes > Whirling Defense because WD is a on a 60 sec recharge while LR is on 30 sec one. They both block for 75% chance but one of them also IAS 33% while other one does crap damage. WD lasts a few seconds longer but when you take into account the recharge times and the fact that if you arent running away or kiting in the 10-11 secs of LR is giving you, then you are alrdy dead.

3) Pin Down > Debil shot in AB. Movement control > affecting one persons energy (in AB).

4) u should be on a recurve bow for general use and interrupts, longbow to hit faraway targets with incendiary (u could also try to get a lucky pin down from miles away), shortbow when they close in range. Point is Wep swap as situation demands.

Ya debilitating shot is just too good to pass up in an experts dexterity build. If you hit on recharge at 16 marks its almost = -3 pips of degen according to the wiki. If your team can provide a little pressure that pretty much garuntees their monk will be screwed in short order.

excellent, just what i needed to read...ty again..so based on what everyone has said the consensual expert's dexterity build would be the same as the pvxwiki ED build. so much for ingenuity!

meh, been winning much more RA last couple days with R/P imbapet anyway

@luminarus:

barbed spear
otyugh's cry
feral aggression
bestial pounce
enraged lunge (e)
lightning reflexes
res sig
charm animal

barbed spear of fortitude
-5/20, +30 shield

just lock the pet and tab spear attacks only bummer is no health regen on me or the pet, but never a problem unless they actually kill the pet - which happens about 1 in 15 matches...if pet is getting low, i'll put on heel for a few sec for regen...for some reason most in RA don't bother attacking the pet and i seem to be the least targeted by the opposition.

bm 12+3+1
expertise 8
spear master 11
+50 vigor
radiant/attunement/survivor

good, bad? dunno...but it's fun, seems to work, and glad points are nice
