Default Itching to start a Ranger

I'm itching to start a Ranger, but there's something keeping me down and that's their performance in HM.

How do they hold themselves in HM, and what are their strong points there? Still interrupting and spreading conditions and degen? People have told me not to start a ranger cause they would be 'useless' in HM. If that's true, I wouldn't start one. Would like to hear your opinions!

Any class can do well in HM tbh. PvE skills make it easy to do just about anything, along with going /A for Assassin's Promise. Rangers specifically have 70 armor, and expertise which is <3. With the Rit buff you could probably get away with going /Rt and spirit spamming through HM too, it's really up to you. Interrupting and Degen aren't really used too much in PvE (that I know of...) those are more meant for PvP.

You should ultimately play something you enjoy playing, lots of people have GWAMM on their ranger's.

Necros.
Paragons.
Warriors.
Assassins.

Keep in mind that physicals NEED buffs to be played at their highest potential.

On topic of ranger:
The best thing about rangers is that they are fun to play in PvE. They can't really match other guys - but playing in a sub-par way never prevented anyone from completing PvE as long as there was somebody to make up for the player's failure. And heroes do that superbly.

I used to vanquish a lot with a friend who were ranger.
It can be really good, he aggroed mobs with barrage and get their life at 1/2 before they event get on party aggro range.
Barrage, "i'm the strongest", splinter weapons and other party buffs

I made legendary guardian with two build high spike damage in hm.
I do 100/150/180 damage per hit.
Of course you need asuran scan with a bit high rank in asura.
You can use glass arrows + ebsh+asuran scan + triple shot/dual shot for high damage

Fiar enuf if the mod thinks this question is for real.

No Rangers are not useless in HM

Many players have Rangers as their primary toon.

Many Rangers are GWAMM

How about you try it?

my ranger is my favorite character!
i actually find it easier to use in HM than any other proffession...like it was said a few posts up, Barrage + Splinter Weapon = massge AoE
theres also an AoE i personally prefer that comes from Incendiary Arrows + Ignite Arrows + Splinter Weapon...it can take out 1/4 of the max health of 10 enemies at once and 3 will be set on fire =)

Various builds work in HM. I regularly use a BM build to take down Magus Stones. Otyugh's Cry, they may block me, but they won't block the pet!

My rangers is 3 areas away from VQ'ing Cantha, and has VQ'ed about 15 in Tyria. None of those areas have been a huge struggle for me.
Builds I run:
Prep shot turret.
Barrage with SY.
AP Caller for discord.
BHA for areas with strong monk or ele bosses.
Spirit Spammer.

The prep shot turret pumps out damage for easier areas.
Barrage fuels SY in areas with large mobs.
AP caller is less effective on a ranger, but since the build is overpowered already, it still works sweet.
BHA is superb for shutting down hard hitting ele bosses and monk bosses with strong healing. Especially so when used with an MM.
Spamming spirits works well when combined with the right hero builds, it gives your party extra support and damage, expertise gives you a nice drop in the cost of binding rituals, allowing you to maintain them with ease.

Rangers may not be the best class in HM, but dont give up on your ranger, they are more than capable of HM.

BHA + Discord = LOLWTFPWN

Seriously, I think BHA is better than the discord caller. It may be a little slow to get a hex on your target (bring asura scan) but BHA can shut down those nukers that seem to love killing all your minions with one spell.

Anyone who tells you rangers aren't good in HM is someone who either never tried it, or failed at it. I would expect more than 2/3 of those critics have never used Edge of Extinction, couldn't explain to you how Serpeant's Quickness works, and have never even heard of Stone Striker + Earthbound Insignias.

The armor vs elemental, the range, the absolutely sick damage you can do as a sniper, the stances, the interupts, the conditions, the running skills, the decreased cost of rituals, decent self-preservation skills... and I'm sure there are many more advantages.

Ranger has been my primary toon since Prophecies beta. I love Ranger for it's versatility and the fun of playing it. So far he's maxed 14 titles including Legendary Guardian, and I'm currently in the middle of getting Legendary Vanquisher and Legendary Cartographer. With those, he'll be up to 21 maxed titles. I run him in HM with either Sabway, or Discordway hero setups and I usually use something like Splinter/Barrage, or Broad Head Arrow along with Pain Inverter, Finish Him, and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support. Makes vanquishing easy-peasy.

As for PvP, my Ranger is an r4 Hero, r1 Gladiator, and r10 Kurzick ATM (and I don't play all that much compared to some others who are really hard-core). I farm ZKeys from PvP and can make lots of plat from it. Rangers can be a major asset to your team (and a major PITA to the enemy team). Something I like to do just for fun is to run an interrupter with Spike Trap in Jade Quarry. I lay Spike Trap on the enemy spawn points. It is no end of laughs (not to mention a great help to my team) to watch opponents spawn, get KD, a bit of dmg, and limp around for 20 seconds or so, making them perfect targets for Ion Cannon and other nice AoE.

So play your Ranger and have a blast!

LMAO!! I have to go do this right now. After finishing EotN on my ranger, I worked to get her to JQ and FA yesterday and now I'm even more motivated. There's something about trapping enemies that makes me laugh maniacally. Watching them limp around burning and bleeding is sickly funny.

To the OP: I was a real hard core Ele player. She was my first toon. I also tried a necro, a 'sin and so on and I finally tried a ranger. My ranger is so much fun and so versatile, that I don't even play my ele much any more.

4 man trap team HM in UW? A total blast. HM vanquishing or missions? Not an issue. I spread poison and bleeding and make it easy for the front line to take down the bad guys. Take Asuran Scan, or Ebon Vanguard Assasin with splinter barrage to the FoW. In AB I solo cap because with a poisonous longbow the shrine NPCs can't touch me so I degen them all to death.

The reason I tried a ranger is because they're a PITA and as an ele, I cursed them. If you're good, you can shut down anything. Necro. Ele. Monk. And the best thing is, most people ignore you (expecially in AB) not realizing that you're the one causing them pain and grief, crippling them, bleeding them, poisoning them. If you time it right, hit someone with a poison arrow in AB, let them degen a bit, for just a sec or so, and anticipate some kind of healing spell, get ready... then hit them with DS. FTW man, FTW. Works like 98% of the time. And eles? Pshhh. Like hitting the broad side of a barn.

Have fun! =D
