Default Rangers Useless?...

My main is my ranger, my first char, had since game came out. Ive invested alot into her--time,gold, titles maxed etc. But now im kind of regretting it. I feel like Rangers are sort of useless lately. It seems like everything a ranger can do, some other class can do better. cough assasins cough. It was better when you could trap more effeciently and actually farm. I do enjoy interrupting, but that only does so much for me. Now i dont see the point of being on a ranger anymore. What do rangers do that other classes cant?? What makes it fun for you?

Try joining speed clear groups. Fissure of Woe SC groups use Edge of Extinction rangers/rits. If farming is boring, maybe you could try PvP.

The biggest mistake you could have made is regretting what you have done. Rangers are the most versatile class in the game. They can still efficiently farm in several prominent spots, including the Underworld. You are here to have fun, and if playing a ranger provides you with that then so be it.

I restarted more than 3 chars just because I realised early on that they weren't very prominent to farm with. Don't go down that path. I did, and I certainly regretted it, and still do

Ranger is great at PvP. Pretty much useless in PvE.

In PvP, I find it extremely fun to spread conditions, dshot monks, and spam needle. Fun!

Ranger is a great class, but its' use is limited in the current pve meta. Which is largely due to farming builds that involve *cough* assassins.

Rangers do a number of things well including aoe damage, interruption, condition spam, utility(spirits, trapping) and single target spiking. They can even stance tank to a degree, although escape took a huge hit in pvp lately, so no more sway builds and escape melee in general.

Due to pve's current state which largely encourages people to make sins and monks, a ranger's strengths are not immediatly obvious and you will find yourself excluded from pugs and so forth. But don't be fooled into thinking it's a bad class, it's far from it.

Ranger in pvp is just badass since no one (except mesmer) really cares what you do...because most classes are just worried you are gonna **** them up if they attack you. Plus, you can 'plant' some nasty surprises for your enemies. Rangers are probably the most overpowered profession in pvp.

Rangers in pve can be effective damage dealers as well while wielding a bow. However, you can always take advantage of expertise to use attacks from secondary profession (W/D/Sin or even a para). Infuriating heat + go for eyes can be fun...

It all depends on the ability of the player.
Rangers in pve have been at times very effective at

Running / Trapping / Farming / Interrupting and Condition spreading

One to one or in a team they are still very effective.

Been around in this game long enough to see Mesmers Assassins Ritualists Paragons and now Rangers been rubbished and praised.

Its not all down to skill changes its mostly down to dedicated players trying to make them better.

Assassins once could hardly get in a party now they are everywhere.
Maybe the paragon will be the next flavour of the month.

Rangers have a fairly decent part in the game still.. Can go EoE in FoW. Or perhaps Barrage Urgoz?

I think Rangers have potential, i just think ATM they are obselete for PvE. ( not to mention my 55 monk..another story ) I guess its cuz when i started, you could go and find a B/P team easily, or trap your butt off in UW. All rangers really have left for farming is FoW forrest, but its a waste of time because you can make way more as a perma in UW. I just feel like for general PvE rangers have been nerfed. I liked trapping, i liked the old enraged lunge, escape melee builds...i mean seriously. Sins can be invincible, but escape was too strong?... im whining i know. whiny nerfed ranger

w00t, 30 damage per excruciatingly slow hit. Nothing compared to Triple Chop Warriors and Moebius Sins.

Probably this. imo Rangers have the best Dazed option besides Paragons, and Infuriating Heat is win. The problem is I run it on a /R, because heroes don't like killing a spirit before it naturally dies. Other than that, they can't deal damage and will be impaired due to SoH only working on melees.

Assas can get in now in pug only because they need perma sf to even leave the outpost. When sf gets nerfed half of those sins will get deleted and your usual pve scrubpug doesn't know how powerful spamming DB and SY is anyway.
Para still is flavour of the month simply because SY still works. But then again, pve scrubs wouldn't know about it.

PVE =/ Farming and not being able to farm easily does not make a class useless in PvE. Rangers are just fine for PvE and anyone who thinks not is pretty much doing it wrong.

You can play damage builds using bow if you wish or try spear or go melee and run an axe or scythe build with or without a Pet. Yes , a good axe warrior will outdamage you but you can do more than enough damage even in HM to blow shit up at a speedy rate and roll just about any area.

Or you can play party support running SY! , blindbot or dazer to shutdown virtually any group without any real problem.

Rangers in PvP are extremely strong and fantastically fun to play, Tried the dagger/scythe etc melee builds but nothing really matches up to Cripshot/Mels for the fun factor for me

First and favorite character is a Ranger. I love rangers, and more so I love Beastmasters. I've got a hearty white wolf that has beaten every campaign with me. When in doubt, I grab my beastmaster build. Its my favorite part about being a ranger. I recommend giving it a try if you're bored with the other ranger tasks.

Even in PVP I love it (Enraged lunge ftw) lol. But seriously if you haven't been a beastmaster, you haven't fully experienced a ranger.
