Default Paragons worthwhile?

I got GW Factions and Nightfall for Christmas and while I have created an Assassin to adventure through Factions, I cannot make up my mind about whether to make a Paragon or Dervish for NF. I am leaning towards Paragon because I have only played as Warrior, Elementalist and Assassin so far. How do Paragons stand up as a support character in PVP and in PVE when I decide to take a break from playing with heroes?

Thanks in advance.

I've played as a Warrior primary toon for the best part of 3 years. In comparison, a Paragon rawks as a support character. It's ability to do DPS and spam "Save Yourselves!", "There's Nothing To Fear!" and "They're on Fire!" results in massive damage mitigation and excellent party support. If i had the choice all over again, Paragon would be my pick vs Warrior.

I'm working my Para through GW:EN and NF at the moment to pick up Hayda and the General - toss in Melonni as an orders D/N for some serious Paragon party fun.

Think of it this way - a Dervish is a highly specialized warrior that focuses on applying enchantments to themselves, and having effects trigger upon the application or removal of that enchantment. Those, in conjunction w/ the way scythes work in GW, creates a melee character adept at causing AoE carnage.

The Paragon, OTOH, can be an excellent support character - increasing the team's offense, defense, or both. They can also be a ranged offense machine, applying a variety of conditions on enemies while also dealing good damage. It's really a matter of choice w/ what direction to go, but the strength of GW is that you can experiment w/ builds.

Personally, I rolled an assassin, dervish, paragon, and ritualist because they all offer different things...

If you don't mind grinding your Kurzick/Luxon title for a 4 second Save Yourselves!, Paragons are insane.

Otherwise an Eternal Aura tree is pretty amazing.

You can always try out both and see which one you like.
I just made a para and I have to say it's alot of fun-great party support and damage (which is what I normally go on with my tank).
But the amount of damage a derv can put out is just impressive-one of my officers has a build where he's hit upwards of 200 damage on guys in HM.
Just give both a whirl-if you don't like one you can either delete or turn 'em into a storage char.

I love my para. Also have a Derv but never got to pley with her. Para is also very nice in pvp with all the shouts etc. Makes good partysupport.

Personally, i think the paragon is something you have to dedicate yourself to. The dervish is a amazing character to play as in pve especially, with so many buffs it's very hard to get yourself killed.

Dervish = crazy offense
Paragon = crazy defense with some nice offense

If you'd rather be melee to kill things, play dervish. If you'd rather be in the midline using your insane defense and doing some nice damage, go paragon.

I use paragon heroes (that means no PvE skills) and I STILL think they are crazy good.

EDIT:

Paragon heroes suck because they don't understand the simple concept of chaining shouts.

TBH I wouldn't make a Paragon, they're too boring to play because they make PvE too ridiculously easy lol. You can pretty much aggro every single damn thing in sight when you have Defensive Anthem, TNtF!, and SY! being chained by two Paragons and not break a sweat.

Dervs own in PvE damage-wise, pretty much the highest sustainable DPS you will ever get, but like Assassins, there's really only one build style that overshadows all the others completely. AKA it gets boring.
