A team of damage casters is pretty terrible. The ability to take down a single target quickly means the biggest threat of the group is eliminated faster. When the priority target is down the mob as far as I'm concerned is done.

/agreed
When things get harder, I tend towards physicals as damage dealers - they're hardier, more flexible, more disruptive, hit harder (+dmg ignores armour; whereas a 30 damage SF is funny, sad, and reality), and can be buffed to high heaven damage-wise - Barbs and Splinter Weapon alone are already pretty scary.

I heard that monsters in HM get massive armour and nearly every ele skill doesn't penetrate armour

so none of you use eles in hm... you all go with paras to go spike out individually.

the ability to take out a single target is awesome... but killing the grp all at the same time is better i herd.

We have Splinter Weapon as Sab mentioned, it's all you ever need. The eles typically have Mind Blast powering Rodgort's Invocation as the only AoE on the bar. The rest of the bar has utility, maybe a little more damage, because anyone who can abuse their energy pool is best suited for that role.

When you can kill a single target in a few seconds, with some splash damage from a handful of AoEs, you don't have to waste time balling the enemies up to make lots of numbers.

The fastest I've torn through DoA involved 5 physicals and my Ele spending most of her energy maintaining Great Dwarf Weapon with the occasional Rodgort's. Buffed physicals kill faster than anything else in the game.

Well the max it will hit is 3 and barrage hits 6... Had you said Volley I would've been ok with that but you did not.

Taking a spear, axe, sword, hammer, etc and putting splinter upon it on balled up enemies is just devasting for 1 major reason... IAS. Since those physicals can attack a hell of a lot faster then a bow can its outrageous how much damage splinter will give and its all armor ignoring which is glorious.

I'd love to do some of those runs with regular builds. Seems everyone is running Ursan these days though.

What does Splinter Weapon, Barrage, and Tombs have to do with this Paragon build?

But to counter your argument regarding Splinter Weapon only being good while used with Barrage, here are a few skills that are very good with splinter weapon:

Triple Chop
Whirling Attack
Cyclone Axe
Crude Swing
Yeti Smash
Earthshaker
Hundred Blades
Volley (fully utilizes Splinter Weapon & frees up an Elite)

Lmao @ the people thinking Relic is serious.

PS -- Yeti Smash and Earthshaker are individual attacks.

Welcome to Normal Mode, population...you. AoE ele's are significantly less effective in HM because their damage is dependent on the enemy's armour. HM foes have better armour so your uber-SF build is all but useless. Armour ignoring damage is FTW and that's why Rac's and Sab's builds are so effective.

The primary role of an ele in HM should be defensive (Blindbot works well). AoE damage, wards and snares (not much use without AoE) all dampen their effectiveness, which all but rules out 3 of the 4 ele lines (unless you're tanking). Wards to a lesser degree, but i'd rather take something other than an Earth ele when your AI squishies tend to kite and i'm spamming SY.

I heard splinter was good on any physical attacker, regardless of the skills on their bar...?
