Default About Necromancers

Would you recommend the class for someone who just wants to do quests or help fellow guildmates? Are they able to do well solo with henchies? Im considering making a necromancer on prop and working my way up to nightfall.

I love Necros and personally think they're useful for any situation, so yes, I would recommend one for helping guildmates and doing quests.

Honestly, it's not really hard to solo w/henchies with any class. As long as you're not doing an elite area or mission.

My very first char was a necromancer. GW was my first MMO. I didn't understand the concept of a group.

Using Minions I got my necromancer to Pikin Square in prophecies, doing every quest along the way, before my friend explained to me that I was supposed to take henchies or people with me.

So, yeah, I'd say Necros, especially Minion Masters, are good for that.

Same here, I never knew about henchies. I know NF has them but are they available in beginning prop also?

If so, Im going to make one and keep it as my main when I get home from work .

Heroes are available in Nightfall and EOTN. Henchman are those guys standing on the side in every outposts/towns that can be "hired" at any time.

Absolutely.
It's the easiest class in GW.
It was my first character and I still have a blast with it.

I've found Necromancer to be my favorite class to play. I've played many builds, from MM to Curses to support (secondaries are great, eh?) and it never seems to get dull. OK, maybe sometimes (title grind, anyone?)....

I would say that it depends on your playing style. If you like being a mid-liner that can mitigate damage as well as spread some love, then necro is for you. Plus, that +4 in Death Magic is so much nicer when you go the MM route.

Wirelessbluepig: There are no henchmen to hire in the beginning of Prophecies (pre-searing). It is after you go through the Searing that you will have henchmen.

Ok last question, if I store my cash on nightfall character I made into the chest, can my new class in prop retrieve them? that way I can buy skills/armour and runes easier.

And thank you BFG.

What about getting new necro spells? I only seen previews like swarm, vampiric steal and create level 1 flesh monster.

Everything in your storage chest is account-based, so you can transfer all items to all your chars.

Yes, anything you put into a Xunlai chest you can later retrieve on any character from that account. You will have to pay something like 50g to gain access to the account on that char and in Proph you can't get to the Xunlai until after the Searing.

http://presearing.com/ is a great resource. Under Skills->Player Skills you can find a list of all the skills you can learn in pre-searing, listed by profession, and where to learn them.

Yes, though you won't have access to your Xunlai chest in pre-searing.

Arrgh another question. How does necro attack early on before pre-searing? Any spells besides create 1 summon? Just curious.

Yes I did read those . But I meant to write " early on " . I do know there are better weapons or spells later on.

Necromancer is the most broken caster class and possible the most brokenly powerful profession in the game, because of one thing and one thing only -> Unlimited Energy (given some very easy requirements). Make a Necro, you won't regret it!

I had a Necro before Yak's and I was about level 12. I found so incredibly easy to do stuff with henchies since you could self heal and do tons of damage with spells/minions AND never run out of energy. Pretty much a Death Paragon with pants. :P Enjoyable even if they look butt ugly. :P

Necros are always needed for elite areas as well for either Spitefull spirit, Minion Master or Energy (Blood is Power/Blood Ritual.

My main is a necro...go for it, althogh, pick a Female toon IMHO...the male ones all look like pedophiles.

Because, as a caster, you have less armor you should consider finding a wand or staff (which are ranged) for a weapon. Just select an enemy (press C = closest enemy) and press the Space bar to auto-attack. Very early on, blood magic can be very useful, but once you get out of pre-searing, you should focus on just death magic.
