Really depends what you wanna do with your monk ...

PvEwise you should be fine with a staff for prot and a one and off hand set for healing (if you use a lot of pve-only spells consider a staff as well for the recharge) ...
Best staff skin imo is still the classic raven staff which can be bought and modded in the central transfer chamber from Hulen Hairyback.

PvPwise (as well as for higher end PvE) you'll need, beside all the one & off hand combos, a full set of shields (armor vs xxx and +30 HP)
and several one handed weapons (sword, axe or spear) with + 5 energy (unconditional) or Half Skill Recharge or Casting Time and + 30 HP.

The possible options and the amount of money you can spent on this is limitless. I would just stroll wiki and see what fits your taste and money.

A cheap and nice looking shield option is the Aureate Aegis Skin which picks dye nice as well for color coding. You get it from Marduc Snakeslayer in Drakkar Lake near the exit to Varajar Fells with a inherent +30 HP mod and an inscription slot for only 5 Stone Summit Emblems.

Those are easily farmed during the repeatable quest by Kilroy Stoneskin (Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza!) in Gunnar's Hold.

For kurzick armor I lately have fallen in love with the Platinum Broadsword but thats really personal taste again.

I wish you good luck on this vanity affair ... enjoy monking.

I can't believe they have made the raven staff such an expensive craftable. It's an ugly skin that's a common drop.

And yet hard to get with perfect stats since it drops only in Tyria without inscription and very rarely in Istan. It's not more 'expensive' then other blue craftables.

By the way, why would you want to argue about the beauty of it?
Raven staves is not what this thread is about is it?

Stay on topic and help the OP by giving away your favorites for a male Kurzick monk in black. Don't troll.

depends on what ur doing, of course...otherwise for 55'ing, for instance, get any high req, inscribable sword u want in your favorite skin, slap a +5e (I have the power) inscription and 20%ench mod and get urself the -50 (and -20) grim cestas...good to go.. every1 wants an elemental or colossal right now, maybe start a new caster sword trend - u got a metric butt-load of cash ....for anything else get a killer 20/20 (hct/hcr) with an energy and/or fortitude...what am i saying - u have >1/2 million cash...u already know what ur doing lol

edit: btw - if ur kurzick armor still has some red in it maybe a fiery blade (caster) axe would be a nice complement otherwise get a nice steel-colored weapon that takes red or black dye nicely, such as platinum broadsword or platinum staff...the colossals actually dye well, too...

A Fellblade and shield still might look good even though you aren't in tats.

I have some further specific questions and it's not about how the item looks because that has to do with individual taste. And, this is strictly about PvE.

1) What is better, if I am using a Protection Staff? An Adept Head with an "Aptitude Not Attitude" Inscription and a +30 H mod? Or, a +5en Head with a +5 inscription and an Enchantment mod (20%)? Or, is there a better combo of mods and inscriptions for a Protection Monk?

2) Is a Staff better than a Wand/offhand combo? Again, if the Wand/offhand is better what is the better mod combo for that? I use a 20/20 20/20 for my Ele. Is that still a better combo for Protection? If not what is?

3) Some people mentioned taking a second set Wand/offhand for healing. Again, what is the best mod/inscription combo for that?

4) In Slavers Exile, I have been seeing a lot of Sword/Shield combo's. Why, and what are the best mods/inscriptions for each item?

TIA

Duh? After I posted, I looked around the forum and found most of my answers to my questions. But, some things are personal. So, if anyone has an opinion, I'd like to hear it. I see that it is necessary to bring a variety of Weapon sets: Staff, Wand/offhand, and Sword/Shield if I am going to Prot Monk.

This leads to a new question: If I use a sword/shield combo, should I change my secondary skills to Warrior for the required req level? And, should I put that into the shield to get the greater armor boost? (tactics/strength) I'm resonably sure I am not boosting sword req. Or, does it not matter at all because the object is for me to stay away from getting hit?

at 0 spec you get half the armor from a shield, although sometimes speccing 7 or 8 tactics can fit into your build with disciplined stance etc.

I've the same armor, and I'm using a Zodiac Sword and a Darkwing Defender (black dyed) with it, looks really cool . Also using a black dyed Colossal Scimitar and an Aureate Lamp.

no you don't need to make you secondary /w for the shield. If you have a +10 vs fire, piercing, slashing, blunt that brings up your base armor to 78. Shields are also used to hide energy. If you are a keen bean you switch to a 40/40 set to cast a spell and switch back to get the best of both worlds.

my personal sets
spear +5e enchant, shield +10vs X +30hp need many of these
spear +5e enchant + focus + Hrt X +30hp
40/40 set
72 energy set

second set aint so great but is a standard 47e set. Better players than me have a shield and -5e sword instead of my second set

Don't ever used disciplined stance, use guardian. Somewhere on here there is an epic thread about this

Bingo, in PvE it's not all that hard to go untouched as a monk, so I try to use as many half casting/recharge mods as I can. Health mods, and stuff like shields, are a waste in PvE imo since you really won't get hit at all.
