Default Did I mess up ?

I recently got Prophecies and made myself a Ranger/Elementalist. Like any other noob, I didn't read any documentation before diving headfirst.

So, now I'm level 14, I have 12 Marksmanship, about 4 Fire Magic, and 1 Expertise.

Except I read all over the forums here that Expertise is the way to go... and well, it's too late now

So, did I screw up? And are there any recomended builds for a R/E with lots of bow skill, a good bow, and Fire Magic? I've got a pet, too. ^_^

Umm you can't really screw up in Guild Wars.

In every town or outpost you can change around where you have your attribute points and you can change back and forth an unlimited amount of time.

Once you get farther into the game you can also change your secondary profession back and forth without penalty as well.

Don't worry about it. Until you hit lvl20 and get your full 200 attribute points it doesn't really matter what you do.

Corrected

As for Expertise... Just give this a quick read. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Expertise 9 is the best for most builds. Without it your effectiveness as a ranger really does go down.

For what it's worth, I have a guild mate who played an R/E all through the ascension missions in Prophecies and quite enjoyed it. There are obvious synergies with Conjure flame and a bow equiped with a fiery string, to list just one example. And while energy is an issue, if you're sensible you'll have enough to use one, maybe two significant elemental spells.

I think it was a good choice; the diversity of the professions will give you a good sense of the richness of the game. Good luck.

It's not a trick or anything... it's an integral part of the game. Truth be told, I think that the ease at which you can change around your attributes and secondary proffesions is one of the biggest strengths in Guild Wars.

Lol yea, that's the same reaction i thought when i 1st played. Until i found out how that you can reset skills in towns . Anyways I see your goin R/E so you might want to try simple builds like http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/R/E_Fire_Barrage_Ranger

Once, there was a limit though on how you could take points back from attributes ...

Yes, it is one of GW's strong points that you can play around with builds. It's also a weak point in that it further reduces the - already mostly absent - roleplaying aspects of the game.

Urgh... i hated that limit. I use to save some quest rewards till i needed the exp for Refund Points... Which paid of in the end. When i found out about 55 farming i hadn't collected the reward for Cities of Ascalon yet ^^

Thanks. Gonna go over some stuff this weekend, and experiment a bit

But I chose the ranger for the bow skills, gonna use them And marksmanship. I'll go for a Ranger/Monk next time, but that will have to be a while

Don't feel bad about using only ranger skills, a ranger is a very independent profession and can get by just fine without drawing on the 2nd profession. Besides, with points in marksmanship, expertise and wilderness there can be very little left for anything else.
