Default Best all purpose mesmer / which chapter to start in?

I'm thinking about making a mesmer.

I have all 3 chapters.

From the expert mesmer out there, what chapter would be the best for me to start a new mesmer, which chapter would have the best starting skills?

I can research builds based on your answers.

Also, if you have a mesmer and/or if you had to make it over, which is the prettiest female mesmer across all chapters that you would choose?

Thanks.

Prophecies is the best place to start a mesmer. Slow learning curve that lets you learn how to use your skills, skill quests to obtain new skills. I also think the Prophecies mesmer is the best looking.

I would say factions.
lvl 20 in a day or two, you will get to LA and the desert faster than a Tyrian born would.

I personally liked starting in Night Fall due to being able to get the socketed armor. And I like my mesmer casting the elemetalist skill of Searing Flames.

I'm not an expert mesmer, however, I do know how to play one.

I had the same thought process as you, which is the best campaign to start, which one has the prettiest avatar, etc.

Now, I don't care for the asian type of character, so I ruled out Factions (the looks are the only thing - hair, face, body, etc. - that you cannot change). I like the templates in Prophecies. I have a short blond haired girl with blue eyes (I think).

Skills can be purchased anywhere from the 3 campaigns, so that shouldn't be an issue.

You get about the same # of free skills in all 3 campaigns (for Prophecies its upto Kryta - Lion's Arch and beyond are for everyone).

If you are just starting a Mesmer, then play in Prophecies, because then you get to learn slowly the way spells are utilized.

Armor wise, I'm thinking Noble Armor for my Mesmer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I've been thru all 3 chapters with other characters, but I think I'll start my mesmer in Prophecies. I would have to go back to cap elite skills anyways, so I might as well do it up front.

Thanks again.

Don't try making an 'all-purpose' mesmer though... adapting to your environment is so much more fun (and you probably already know all the areas in the game so far as well, making the pwnification of PvE so much easier )
