Default Ranger/Mesmer...need some tips

I am currently in the process of building a ranger/mesmer char. and I wanted some advice. I was thinking of using poison along with barrage and then using some hexes that either punish enemies for casting or slowing their casting time down alot. So far I am lvl 14 and I carry a max ivory bow, working on getting druids armor and thats it.
Any tips/advice would be appreciated. Thank you

main advice: Please read barrage skill description once more, and answer - what poison you going to use. No offense.

What purpose to slow enemy casting time if you going to hit them physically with barrage or any other attack. If you are going to play as interrupter - check Favorable winds and Read the Wind skills. And you can find many good ranger builds in this forum, even in sticky thread.
And use guildwiki a lot - really helps

It's a common beginner mistake, but preparations don't work with barrage.

You don't need a mes second to shut down an opponent, Distracting Shot, Savage Shot will do just fine.

Hmmm...

Mesmers can use: Feavered Dreams (e) or Epidemic. It isn't worth using Fragility though or even Hypercondriach.

Spread conditions or interupts or physical damage, which one will you use?

As a R/Me, you have normal casting time, thus certain spells, like backfire will take a long time to cast. Also, as a Ranger, you do not have the joy of having an off-hand or extra energy (or energy regen) like a mesmer does.

Its best to use mainly Ranger skills.

Unfortunately, I don't think that a mesmer secondary has much to offer a ranger anymore. It used to be a good choice for Mantra of Resolve with use in trapping or Distortion in general bow builds, but they really aren't viable options anymore since they skills have been nerfed. Luckily, however, rangers don't really need any secondary to run an excellent build.

My ranger is R/Me. You'll love the feeling of being unique not only because most rangers are /Mo, but because the mesmer itself is also very special.

I really only use the mesmer secondary to bring along some spell-specific interrupts, though I wouldn't say to not go /Me.

When you ascend though, I reccomend you unlock the /Mo secondary, which is a must for running.

I agree with Archon - ranger builds rely little if it at all on the secondary profession.

being a ranger is unique somewhat. rangers are all about adaptation, from what I know. Also, as stated in one of the above posts rangers don't need a secondary to make a good, effective build. But at some points secondary skills make the build itself better. Personally, I only use mesmer when trapping.

Still some good adaptations, r/mes is great at e-denial and resulting pain. This is admittedly not so usefull in PVE, but...

I was thinking that it might be kool to use fevered dreams when farming and use apply poison, with a bow that increases poison duration by 33%. I also like that I can use the mantra of fire, ice,....etc and take less dmg while gaining energy. Maybe also Crippling Anguish (e) along with the apply poison to get 2 different type degen??? I dunno I am experimenting still so, but I do know I am not dying as much as when I started building my warrior which by the way was a waste cause I made a hammer warrior which sucks. Thanks for help

You can max degen on multiple targets with a R/N quite easily.

Barbed Arrows
Poison Arrow
Ulcerous Lungs

I use R/Me sometimes for a deep wound when I'm playing as a beast master with tons of energy. Otherwise.. I agree, not too much to be had there.
