Default Catch 22 Mesmer

[card]Ineptitude[/card][card]Spirit of Failure[/card][card]Images of Remorse[/card][card]Distortion[/card][card]Arcane Echo[/card][card]Ether Feast[/card][card]Energy tap[/card][card]Resurrection Signet[/card]

This is for RA.

Illusion, Inspiration, and some fast casting.

Enchantment and energy or Recharge mods .

Usage: Keep Spirit of Failure on melee and hit them with Ineptitude and images of Remorse. Use Distortion as needed. This is energy management in itself.

Use Arcane Echo as needed. This is what adds diversity to the build.

If you're under heavy attack you might want to Echo Ether Feast. Or if there is a lot of Melee enemies out there you might want to echo Spirit of failure or Ineptitude. Or if you face heavy casters you might want to echo Energy tap and try to work some energy Denial.

Overall this build is pretty self reliant, flexable, has great energy management, and is capable of Dealing with a lot of assassin spam that's been hitting the RA's lately.

It's probably most weak against caster teams but you'd be surprised how many casters will attack right through ineptitude and images killing themselves.

Although a play a very different ineptitude bar, the only suggestion I have to add to your build is that in PvP casting time is a big deal... Meaning your E-tap is going to be slowing you down, since you are specced into inspiration, you can better your energy management by substituting your energy tap for a power drain. You can take advantage of everyone else who is running these long casts, instead of being taken advantage of yourself.

Update:

Recent Nerf to Spirit of Failure has rendered this build far less effective.

Anyone have any ideas why the SoF nerf is in place?

Extensive abuse when combined with Aegis and necromancer miss-chance hexes (in 8v8) that resulted in an extremely hard to kill team setup as well as ridiculous energy to the mesmer (+5 per attack, nearly).
