Default Modernizing the Illusionary Weapons RA mesmer

It's been a while since IW mesmers had any degree of popularity in RA. But I have to say, theyre not as bad as one might think. With Illusion of Pain on top of Illusionary Weaponry you can put out decent pressure damage bypassing most defences and armor.

That said, I still havent been able to come up with a build that I can actually call a good one. At best it's "Good for a IW mesmer but sucks comparing to literally anything else."

Any ideas folks?

What about to post complete build for comments? Illusion of Pain is strong after buff but can easily backfire unless you cover hex or interrupt hex removal. IW is great, but sensitive to nechantment striping unless covered too. So I would personaly go for W/Me with Illusionary Weaponry & Flurry but without Illusion of Pain.

Illusion of Pain cannot backfire on you. only noob thoughts can

let's assume you run 14 (12+1+1) illusion magic.

you will have for 10 seconds 10 degeneration and 10 damage / second

this will result in (1 pip = 2 dmg / sec) 20 damage + the additional 10 damage per second

do the math.

30 damage per sec. 30 x 10 = 300 damage. they get healed back for 143 health. wow. major backfire I got to say.

ofcourse it's better to reapply it, but if you can't, no problem. you would still have damaged your opponent for 157 damage

Campfire is PvE, so it might be better to move this to the Gladiator's Arena.

Having said that:
The DPS of a IW guy is a bit under 30, which means it is a bit above the DPS of a sword without using any skills.
The good thing is that you can't be blocked, the bad is that your damage can not be increased. Add a few attack skills and the DPS of a warrior is increased, while your IW DPS is ALWAYS the same.
It's not a good skill.

The backfire in question is removing IoP before it ends naturally.
The healing effect ALWAYS kicks in. So if the hex is removed in some 5 or less secs after it was applied - the target will receive a net heal out of it.

Oh the irony. Because there's no such thing as hex removal, amirite?

On topic: Though the illusion magic line got a major power increase with illusion of pain, IW itself did not. In saying that you'll probably find yourself hard pressed to actually find a 'good' IW build, as you're losing so much utility for a very mediocre melee damage elite. Mesmers tend to explode when you throw them on the frontline, so even were the damage from IW increased somewhat it would still not be worth the bad positioning it forces you into.

This may not have been the answer you want to hear, but IW isn't a skill you should field if you want an effective build. Some people find it fun, but useful is another story entirely.
