I would recommend starting in Factions over Nightfall or Prophecies. Heroes are not very useful if you don't have many skills unlocked in the beginning, so henchmen are more useful if you are in that position.

Factions allows you to level up very quickly just by following the storyline. I dislike Nightfall attribute quests with "go kill monsters until you have attained a sunspear rank of Y before proceeding" which basically asks you to kill monster senselessly and grind before you can get your +15 attribute points. Your heroes also starts out at a low level as you acquire them one by one.

If you make a character in Factions, once you have reached Kaineng, you are free to travel across campaigns including Eye of the North which would grant you heroes and PvE skills. Getting heroes and the Sunspear skills in Nightfall is also easy as a foreigner as the starting heroes would already be level 15 then and you get your starting heroes all at once.

Weird. I've never had to grind even once to get those ranks, nor any other story-required rank (both in Nightfall and in Factions). You just take the bounties as you come across them, preferably getting multiple bounties before you start fighting if you know of a safe route to minimize waste (though even that's unnecessary).

I suppose that if you're a silly person who avoids side quests and kills only what you absolutely have to while doing the primary quests, you might have a problem. But if that's you, it's your own fault that you have to grind.

Is the tutorial considered only the pre-searing area? Once you move to post-searing you're done with tutorial?

So if someone doesn't play the exact way you want them to, they are silly?

Side quests have always been optional, so let's leave them as that. I don't like doing the silly side quests and I think it is silly to do them when the primary quests are more fun and Factions makes it easier for me to play that way if I choose to. How's that?
