Default Elementalist / Warrior - Waste of time and energy?

Hey guys, I recently got back into this game (quite heavily I might add, SHEESH! what an addiction :P) and I have been toying with an Elementalist/Warrior in PvE and have toyed with it some in PvP.

It seems all the Elementalists lately are E/Mo (being the LARGEST group), E/Me (for the obvious echo nuking), and E/N (simply because necro is damn potent as a secondary for ANY caster). I very rarely see E/R and even more rarely see E/W.

Is trying to play an E/W a waste of time? I do sort of enjoy the mix of melee + casting thus far and I do know the obvious weakness is that E/W sort of means that if you want to utilize anything OTHER than tactics from the warrior profession you have to be in melee range, something most elementalists and casters in general avoid as much as they can.

I guess I was just wondering what other people felt about this combination. I know I can change my secondary later on but that's besides the point. I'm more interested in hammering down one character concept and going with it, but not if it going to be so gimp later on that I'll regret the character concept.

Anyone having "success" as an E/W that actually uses a weapon line for various builds?

Any responses are greatly welcome.

And lastly, is E/Me the premier "nuking" build? I'm also concerned that E/W would put me far behind a E/Me in nuking power (for those times I can/want to go full ranged assault and not use a weapon to complement ele damage).

Thanks

Well most people just want the cookie cutter builds there is a chance that if you don't echo nuke in the later stages (ie the realms) you might not get a group.

E/W can make greate use of armour of earth though, and conjue flame or whatever would be great to give your weapon extra power

My worry isn't so much not getting a PUG later on in the game for the top level PVE areas because I'm going to be attempting to get into a large active guild that will provide me with all my pve grouping needs.

My worry is moreso that the combo would just not be up to par (or rather, have a niche that is valuable enough in PvE and PvP like the other combos) and furthermore that I'd be SEVERELY screwed for nuking power if I were NOT to go the cookie cutter echo nuker.

Can echo nuking be replaced by simply carrying ONE more high damage AOE power on your bar? Cause I don't see what's so damn special about 2 meteor swarms instead of like 1 meteor swarm and like phoenix up close + inferno or something to that effect.

Enlighten me.

E/W is not that bad in pvp

I used healing signet on my spiker. It worked really well, because by the end, I was so exhausted I could not do anything else.

I don't want to give too much of my build away.. but I have an E/W that is the most effective farmer/power leveler i've ever seen... Mist Form with max water lasts 21 sec (Glyph of Elemental Power makes it 23)... Wary Stance lasts 5-10 seconds depending on tactics, therefore you never take any damage...EVER You then have 6 skills left to figure out energy management and damage output, which changes each situation... but to answer your question, E/W is a very potent build, just underused.

Saw a E/W in RA yesterday running around with an axe a focus, obsidian flesh, sprint, gale, and ward against melee. i couldnt see the rest of the skills but i was playing my R/W build along with 2 other warriors in my group and a SS necro. The warriors and i didnt hit him that much, he was using some stance, and when we did we were hittin for like 10 dmg. The SS necro couldnt get an SS off till 1 warrior was dead then the ele simply put back up obsidian flesh and his ward and healed about once every 3 swings. It was crazy..........

I think a warder with some defensive shouts would be good, then be able to have some dmg output with earthquake as well, obsidian flame, blah blah blah.

My Battle Hydromancer

Water Head piece + 4 (3rune+1headpiece)
Pyromancer's

11 Water
9 Air
8 swordsmanship
8 energy storage

Resurection signet or Glimering mark(E),
Blinding flash, Windborn speed
Ice Prison, Ice Spear, Water Attunement
Sever Artery, Gash

Well of course you shouldtake a res sig in most cases, but if you're playing PvE still you could take the Glimering Mark... All these skills help all your allies to 'get away' from melee casters and you have enough swordsmanship to easilly hamper spell caster yourself.
Wind born speed can be used to boost other melee fighters on your team to get to close melee faster and many spellcasters and monks that have to maneauver around.
