Default Need some ideas for a PvE water ele build

Just started up and Ele a few weeks ago and got most of the water Ele skills but not sure what would be a good combination of skills to make an effective PvE water ele.

Thanks.

There is no combination of skills that makes for a very effective PvE water elementalist. Sorry.

Unless there's something major and new in Nightfall I'm not aware of ...

Fire works well, of course. Earth works pretty well. In Air you can pretty much imitate PvP builds and get by OK. But Water is underpowered; the snares just aren't that useful.

Well I used to have a fire ele and got bored with it real quick and thought I would try something new.

Shatterstone and maelstrom are probably your two best options from the water line.

Toss maelstrom on a caster and you'll get an interrupt or two, plus they'll then run out of it, giving you a net result of 1-2 interrupts, some damage, and caster shutdown when your enemy is forced to run.

Shatterstone can deal impressive spikes, especially when combined with vapor blade. Find a non-enchanted squishy target, cast shatterstone and immediately follow up with vapor blade for a big wad of damage.

Some PvE missions do need some mild snares, and there's nothing better than a water ele for that. Blurred vision is an excellent defensive spell, and rust can be absolutely hilarious in the right situation.

Don't bother with the air spells with an extra effect while under a water hex. They're generally sub-par in terms of damage and don't have good enough effects to be worthwhile.

Good luck!

Snares aren't that useful because the mobs don't know how to kite, melees group up to hug a specific target anyway, and casters just stand there like idiots.

Snares are still quite useful in PvE in my experiences! And while I do agree Shatterstone + Vapor Blade deal great dmg. I'd say Maelstrom work better then just 1-2 interrupt. From what i've seen so far, enemies ai don't always 100% dodge maelstrom... and especially when they are in a group or busy trying to spike. If enemies try to run? Well what do you think water slow hex are for? That's how you need to combine Freeze Gust, Ice Spike or Deep freeze! *or any knockdown + snare effect*
(You would be surprise maelstrom don't just work on casters.... it also work very well on Assassin enemies as well. And the spell dmg range is a lot bigger then it appears.)

I know a lot of people neglect Water in Pve! But nevermind those people's stereotype impression... I had the same feeling like Evaunit, I got very bored with Fire-line and I always prefer water line. And I manage to use water spells very well in PvE with different tactics. *Each Water Elite has it's own unique use, be creative!* Try have your ele hero using water too, you can let them spike with shatterstone +vapor blade. *with micro-control on their Maelstrom use* While u do snaring, maelstrom and Water Trident elite *if u have access to tyria area* (There is a mission in NF, forgot the name, with Ele bosses and ele spawn, triple maelstrom work wonderful on them!)

Water has it's own uses. It works fine in pve and pvp alike.

Get over your cookie cutter nukers, ss nec's, and warriors. Start running other things. Water doesn't have the damage output of a fire ele, but snaring mobs of melee classes is a great relief to groups in it's own respect.

And mobs do kite now, they do run after you as well.
