Default which profession to max?

'ello!

So now I have been in this game for around 8 years and been playing it off and on. I have three main characters - sin, ranger and paragon, all have about 5 maxed titles so far.
As I start to get less gaming time, I am planning on sticking to one of these characters and try to get ~20 maxed titles. What would be your suggestions about which profession to pursue the titles. Tell me about your experiences about different professions, which gets rather boring and dull and which keeps you on your toes and is engaging to play with.

For me, I really enjoy all of them, but lately it gets boring to repeat the same missions, vq's 3 times (im not that tedious). Also, I have to think about the drunkards/sweet tooths etc. because i have full chest of event items, that are asking to be used.

Any advice, insights will be appreciated.

NOT Paragon. The most underpowered profession in the game. I'm sure someone will be on now to defend Paragons ... not putting them down, just the reality of the bad programming used to create their skills.

Either of the others. Whatever you like to play most. Sin probably has more power and you can play without thinking much but you can SOS on a Ranger (who is also an underpowered toon but has cool looking armor) so there is that and it has helped my ranger max easily.

Personally I'd create another character like an Ele or War and breeze through more quickly. But other people will tout the ones they enjoy more. It's up to you. Only ever playing three professions though sounds like that is what is boring and not the repeating missions/farming.

For paragons you just need a good hero setup.
Here is what I use on my paragon:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Khomet/Kway

Also sins can do a lot of dungeonsc making them ideal for eotn titles.

But in the end it's what you prefer to play and the way you like to play.
Some professions can be as brain dead skill spamming to actually knowing where and when to use what skill.

Cheers,
Xander

Weird that you mentioned these two professions as they are really underused in Meta. I would place my bets on necro or mesmer.

Nonetheless, i'm just thinking that maybe there are some extremely hard areas for certain professions or something that is really pain in the a.. Or right the opposite - something that is really a breeze, and outweighs other classes significantly.

Best PvE build in the game lol! I'll have to respectfully disagree with Gadd Fan here. I remember using that build to steamroll places like Eternal Grove and Gate of Madness in Hard Mode and that was back when you could only use a maximum of 3 heroes instead of the 7 you get now. And it wasn't because I was skilled at the game (I'm not), it was because of how ridiculous "Save Yourselves!" and "TNTF!" are. Out of all 10 of my characters (1 for each profession), I've had the easiest time playing straight PvE with my paragon.

Assassin is a very good choice too. Great for farming and probably 2nd only to the Imbagon for general PvE use, in my opinion. If you plan on farming and running a lot of elite areas then you might want to consider your Assassin. It's way more versatile and has many different uses compared to the Imbagon.

Ranger is cool, but I don't think it's as good as an Imbagon or as useful as an Assassin.

I think by far the most important part is your heroes though. As long as you have 7 fully equipped heroes (runes and perfect weapons), you can basically destroy the game in HM without even flagging or doing anything except moving from point A to point B. The only exception might be some of the elite areas, which you have to put some effort into.

As someone who has played a Paragon for over 2,000 hours and obtained GWAMM on that character I must say: the Paragon is a horrible profession unless you enjoy playing the Imbagon and can actually play that specific build well. I've seen far too many people who show their Imbagon build and then fail to maintain "Save Yourselves!" on their party. And they're not the "most underpowered profession in the game" (that's a ridiculous statement as one of their builds is literally called the "Imbagon") since that title obviously belongs to the Dervish which is far too reliant on enchantments and on the enemy to be balled up nice and tight, so that their scythe attacks can hit 2 or 3 targets at once.

Anyway, I'll also mention that I've gained at least 15 titles on 12 characters (one of each profession and then an extra Necromancer and a Mesmer) and, based on that experience, I would recommend you stick to your Ranger.

The Assassin is ok since you can use a wide variety of melee and ranged builds, and you'll always have the option of joining a speed-clear team, since Assassins are popular in those groups.

However, if you don't plan on doing speed-clears and just want to focus on doing elite areas and HM stuff then I think you'll have a slightly easier time with a Ranger since they can play those same melee and ranged builds that are available to the Assassin and, on top of that, they can also play a Beast Master build and have an extra 30 armor against Elemental damage (which means they take about 40% less damage).

The Beast Master is an extremely underrated build that can allow you to have a tank with somewhere between 420 and 540 health, 104 armor (80 base plus 24 from Otyugh's Cry), an inherent damage reduction of 33%, a base damage reduction of 17 or 20 points (from Call of Protection), and a speed boost of 20% (which can be boosted to 50% with Run As One). And, even if your pet tank dies, you can easily revive him in 1 second to 87 or 104 health. However, after all that, you can still use that pet tank as a single-target DPS machine with the Enraged Lunge Elite.

That's an average DPS of 74 and I'm not sure if Deep Wound is included in that calculation. Also, feel free to replace Run As One with another skill.
For comparison purposes, this is what a Warrior can do when their entire bar is dedicated to DPS:
With an axe build, 13 Axe Mastery and 15 Strength, you can do about 70 damage per second: https://imgur.com/cFnig6H
With a dagger build, 15 Strength and 12 Dagger Mastery, you can do about 95 damage per second: https://imgur.com/mAIhkBS

I would also agree that an Elementalist and a Warrior would be poor choices. The Elementalist in particular does far too little damage to high level foes so they are forced to play Monk builds (which they can use very well because of Ether Renewal) or Assassin's Promise builds (which can be used by any spell-caster, Assassin or Ranger). And the Warrior is limited to melee or a spear build and this lack of build diversity makes them unfavourable, in my opinion.

If you want to choose between the 3 you got already (sin, ranger, para) I'd always go with the ranger since you can do pretty much everything with it
And I always liked to play with a pet and a weapon of choice... Hammer/Spear/Daggers seemed to work best for me so far

Anyway... PvE (+maxing 20 titles) is so easy if you're used to the class you're playing that it doesnt really matter which class you choose.

IMO you should just choose the class you enjoyed the most so far.

In case you pick ranger and need help or ideas for builds feel free to pm me... I still got a lot of different builds saved that can be rly fun to play.

Best wishes

I vote the Ranger. As with the poster above, they have a variety of builds and are easy to play using heroes. However, unless you make your own group, they have one of the hardest times getting into parties.

Back when I was still playing often, running a party of ranger/pet heroes was a blast and was able to do almost all HM content with relative ease.
