Default 300 ecto Christmas Wishlist Giveaway

Quote:
Stage #3 Finalists (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!)
-the numbers in the brackets are the post numbers in this thread; for easier reference)

- Tramp (21)
- Dr Imperial (28)
- Tyrael Eveningsong (155)

Each person won for a very different reason. One of the key criterias I decided to establish was a clear identity of the person who would be receiving the reward. If you didn't name names, I decided to not weigh the entry as heavily.

@ Tramp: Thanks for your passionate public (and private) appeal on the good nature of some people, and defending those who both need and deserve something. I'm glad that there are other well-off people who see that money is not everything, and that people deserve a share of the goodness that is out there.

@ Imp: Not only was I amused by your entry, I empathized with it. I've had a handful of friends in Guild Wars who have, through thick and thin, sane & insane, mature and childish, put up with me, my goals and everything else under the sun. I'd also like to thank you for your honesty; this is one of the things that helped reassure me that you are genuine in your intentions. I noticed that you kept track and edited your post with how many materials you needed for FoW armor.

@ Tyrael: You and I have a small history together! I believe I first met you on my secondary account; maybe you were buying Red Iris Flowers? Or something else of the sort. Anyways, like Massiva Impulsa mentioned, your entry is a good one. The value of true friends is not something that one can put a price on, yet it seems like we can never give or do enough to thank them. I'm so glad for you that you have these people in your life. You seem like a very gracious and humble person.

Breakdown of prizes:
~ approximately 475k/100e value (in cash, ecto, etc.) per finalist.
~ about another 500k total to certain non-finalists.
TOTAL PRIZES: about 2 million platinum.

@ Scarn, Haxor & Alexander Burn Victim: I'm thanking you each for your entries; had I not known you guys OR the person you were writing about, I may have selected you. I opted to be a bit more objective in my selections. I <3 Scarn, Jayne & Erin are amazing women, and I really adore Mystic Elentari. There may be something more private in store for you guys. <3333

To all others: I'm sorry that I couldn't pick all of you to win. If I had enough wealth to give everyone on the shortlist 100 ectos, I would. You are all quite inspiring people, and I'm glad that you have let others into your lives! Some of you may be receiving unexpected contact from me for prizes, even if your name is not listed as a finalist.

As for the person who tried to scam me out of 300e in my last big giveaway, you shouldn't have bothered entering this one... or any future ones.

Thanks to all who participated. I hope your Christmas was smashing, and I hope you all bring down tha house with a crazy and amazing new years celebration!!! I hope that 2009 brings you good fortune.
----------

ENTRIES ARE CLOSED. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ANY NEW CONTENT. ANY EDITED ENTRIES PAST THIS POINT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Normally I do monthly giveaways on GWG, but this month is special; it’s the holiday season, whatever that may mean to you. For the sake of my interests, this is a Christmas Giveaway. It won’t be a giveaway of a typical fashion, though.

The purpose of this giveaway is to celebrate people you respect, admire and have come to really like in the time you have played Guild Wars. Through giving thanks to someone special, a reward may be in store for you. This reward would be something you’d put on your “GW X-Mas List” and like a good Santa, if you’ve been nice, I just may grant it. I believe that a good measure of a person is to see how grateful and inspired they allow themselves to be by someone special.

In the spirit of giving, I aim to try and remind people of the good done for them by just having a friend. There’s too much cynicism and antagonism because of this anonymous little bubble we co-exist in. Let the Christmas spirit begin!

How will this work?
• The total value of rewards is 300 ecto. I have not yet decided if I will reward this to just one person. It may be split between 2 or 3 people, depending on how inspired I am.
• Your wish list may comprise of items adding up to 300e, or you may just request any number of ecto up to 300e.
• Following your wish-list (in the same post), tell me about someone special you have met in GW, and have made your time in GW better. You may do this in any number of ways, like a poem, story, or just a description of this person. The content may be whatever you wish… as long as you are telling me about this person and how they have changed/helped you!

Please meet these requirements:
• To avoid multiple entries, you must (Please be aware of these rules!):
o Have been registered on these forums for at least 4 months.
o Have at least 50 posts (if you have the title Pre-Searing Cadet or Ascalonian Squire, you are not eligible).
• I’d like if you still actively played the game. There’s no point in going for this money if you don’t play. Please give others a chance.
• Please do not privately submit entries to me, just reply to this thread.
• Identify their IGN & forum names if they are a user here. This will increase your chances of winning if there’s some proof that this person actually exists.

Other details…
• I don’t play the game anymore, so any attempts to contact me in game will most likely be failed attempts.
• I’d ask that you not make this into a discussion thread. I’d hate to close it down, but too much feedback of any sort will result in me locking this thread. Any questions, comments or concerns can be PMed to me.
• The winner(s) will be announced shortly after December 25th, but before the new year.
• Please keep the holiday spirit in mind. I want this thread to be warm and fuzzy, not bitchy and moany!
• If your guild has forums or some other outside method of communication, feel free to post this link and get your guild mates involved!

Lastly, I want to thank the people who have inspired me to keep giving back to both my friends and the community. I’ve been in very few guilds in my time in this game, and the first long-term one will always stick with me. Xen of Onslaught, through excellency and controversy has always provided me with one consistent thing: amazing quality of person, and quality of player. To Billiard, Ruud, “The Prince,” and the rest of the Xen of Onslaught [XoO] community that I was once a part of, thank you for inspiring me to give back. Long live Reign of Xen/Xen of Heroes!

-Jenn

Contest entries are closed after December 24th at 11:59:59 GMT.
One entry per person.

Please note: I reserve the right to add, delete or change any details of the requirements, deadline, etc.

And remember, well written entries with effort make a big difference in my decision! You may edit your entries up until the closing date.

Default Poem, for my biggest love.

Oh yeah the wish list xD
A BDS (done dragon staff ) rq blood
or ofc 1-300 E´s

This is a Poem i wrote for the love of my life ( im 29 ). i met her in LA dis 1 asking for ppl to do the villany quest, then she joined my team and we started talking. Then she told me that she lived in a town very nearly mine, we did some quests together and chatted alot, then we started meeting each other. in town and such, then for 4 month ago i wrote thise poem for her:

all evening he waited
anxiously eyeing the clock
retracing his steps
over and over
counting the minutes
until her arrival

kneeling before a crackling fire
adding another log
he rose to check again
his preparations for tonight

the thick sheepskin rug
lay lovingly spread before the flames
waiting for her

the book
the one she longed after
in that tiny shop downtown
rested on the warm stone hearth
waiting for her

the wine
that special bottle
from a few years ago
late fall harvest
sat open
and sweet
waiting for her

the glasses
his best crystal
sat sparkling in the firelight
waiting for her

his hand
stopped a moment
over his heart
and lovingly fingered
the prize there
hidden away in his pocket
where it lay
waiting for her

taking the ring
from its secret place
he gazed at it
mesmerized by its shine
by what it stood for
soon he smiled and
softly slipped it back
to its repose
where it lay
waiting for her

seating himself back on the chair
he resumed his vigil
over the fire
over the wine
over the clock
over himself

and he sat
quiet and lost in thought
waiting for her.

That was the end ^
Dont know if you like it or anything, but it means everything 2 me. (:

300 Ectos my good sir!

I have not one but two special people, both actually from XoO. Shannon (Dirty Grl) and Tony (Toni the Stampede) had made my time in XoO a lot more enjoyable, and when I recently started playing again, I was greatly saddened when I saw that they were no longer active. Tony, Shannon and I would have conversations for hours on Vent while we leeched off Tony in CoF.

Also, what's your IGN for XoO? This is Telemon Ajax, you may or may not have heard of me

• Amount- Any number of ectos

• Use- My friend was hacked 2 months or so ago, so I would probably give him most of it, then with the rest would start to get some PvE characters PvP ready.

• Special person met in GW- Justin (IGN: God of Toast) Same friend from above. I met him probably 2+ years ago, and since then we have become very good friends. We would help each other with practically everything. He's one big reason why i haven't quit this game, because he's one of my really good friends IRL now.

1 or 300. Doesn't matter.

I say Trained Cleavage. Reborn A God.

He has been a friend since about a year and a half ago who got me into the circles of trading and highend PVE guilds. He has let me piggy back around with him to bigger and better guilds like the current guild i'm in SCAR, which is a very active PVE guild which has inspired me to play again more than ever. Redo-ing old quests and missions. It has rekindled the entertainment and enthusiasm I had for this game when I first stepped into Ascalon in Pre Searing. Guys like him make you remember how fun the game is. Currently i'm going for God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals, and then I want to fill up my HoM.

So any money I get would go and is currently going to the HoM/GWAMM savings.

A few ectos would be great; put me back on track to getting my FoW armor that I lost a few months ago due to a hacking.

I'm going to talk about two people who made me into a better player. I always used to shy away from HM, thinking it would be too hard for me. They introduced me to a variety of builds; taught me some basics on how to be a good monk and generally been really great with me. Heck, if you chose me, I'd probably give them a bit of whatever I get, just to say thanks. They held my hand through some of the harder stuff in the game, and let me tag along when I wasn't really needed. I'll let them stay anonymous, but yeah. I would've stopped playing a long time ago if not for my friends.

My little pet piggy is very special to me. I've met her 2 years ago at the Canthan New Year festival 2007 and we're one since. Where ever I go, she goes. She means everything to me *sniff*

She even saved my live mutiple times. Alcohol my friend.... It almost became my downfall and destroyed my active career as a w/mo. But she saved me. Yes she did. I was already a Drunkard, but she slapped the sence out of me before I reached Incorrigible Ale-Hound. I was spending all my money on booze, but not anymore. I can be proud of myself. I'm 100% clean. Haven't touched an absinth or a hunters ale in more than 6 months.

And there was that one time she saved me from that hord of angry moa birds, but that's a story for later.

If you could spare some ectos for me (300 or less :P), I would get her some brother and sister mini piglets. She would be so happy =)

Any numbers of Ectos (300 would be nice! ) is fine, if I win I'll split them with my friend!

I suppose the person that has inspired me in GW the most is the person that introduced me to the game. We met in another game, completely by chance, and he was the leader of a gaming community that had nearly died; I was the first new person to join up after all of the former members had left. Since then, he's become one of my best friends and together we've been able to build that same community back to a very respectable status.

He was a huge fan of Guild Wars, spending a great deal of time in the game. After partnering with him for a few months in rebuilding the aforementioned gaming community, I finally asked him what this Guild Wars game he was always playing was. I'd never really been into MMO's or the fantasy genre. I thought the game sounded fun, but I wouldn't be able to get the game until my birthday several months later - and by then I probably would have forgotten about it and never gotten into the game. About a week after that conversation, my friend logged on to MSN and said he had gotten an extra guild wars account to play on, and I jokingly suggested he could lend me the account so I could try the game; turned out that was the exact reason he had bought it (I'm sure he also wanted some mule space to, but I like to think otherwise ) So for the next 3 months he let me play on his extra account, he helped me every step of the way through GW, through missions, free weapons, armor, and just simply playing with me for hours on end, answering every stupid question I could think of.

And when I got my own copy of GW 3 months later, he helped me do it all over again (With a few less stupid questions I hope).

One of my fondest memories of the past three years I've spent in GW was when I first got to Lions Arch with my friends help. We just went out wandering in North Kryta Province and ended up on the beach north of LA. We spent about half an hour just messing around on that beach, having a great time playing on the shore. In the past three years, we've maintained our great friendship outside of GW, even though in GW we've drifted apart, mostly due to him not playing the game as much anymore. However, we still take the time every few months to go out North of LA and visit the beach with those same characters just for fun.

At this point, Guild wars is my favorite game. I would never have been introduced to it if not for my friend, nor would I be nearly as good player if not for the hours he spent helping me from the very beginning.

Thank you for this giveaway, I look forward to seeing the other stories people post in here!

An everlasting Phantasmal tonic or an everlasting gelatinous tonic.

An interesting person I have met in my 3 years of Guild Wars is my girlfriend Tracey! While I did not meet her in game originally, she quickly enjoyed and fell in to the same obsession that was Guild Wars. That was almost 2 years ago this month. It is a wonderful experience not only to have a person you can talk with about the game but spend time questing, doing missions, and farming with. While I was always close with my guild my bond with her was so much stronger, and it made our relationship stronger having a common interest. While she started out playing because the characters were her "virtual barbies" it quickly grew in to something we spend our free time playing together. We also taught each other so much. Before we met the closest thing to PvP I participated in was Alliance Battles on the rare occasion. I was a PvE kind of guy. Her passion for PvP soon became mine as my knowledge of PvE became handy to her. Now she is the guild leader of our little family in game We Would Like To Play [Wii]. We are on the ladder in the upper 400s due to her (and others in the guild) passion for GvG. I have even become at least competent in PvP (while no where on her skill level). She is my best friend and so much more, but I think we would probably not be together if not for a little game called Guild Wars. We love each other and this game so much we have entered and both placed in the Halloween art contests making costumes of our characters (me as honorable mention in 2007 and her a finalist in 2008). She is graduating from our University in the next couple weeks and moving back home, where I hope to soon follow. While we will be far apart in real life, we can always be close to one another in our favorite past time, Guild Wars.

She is Guevera Verreuil (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/member.php?u=142570) on the forums and in game and I am Darc Sword.

Thank you for another wonderful Giveaway!!!!

any amount of ectos would be nice

a person hat has inspiried me was one of me earliest friends i have met in guildwars ;]. He was always kind and helpful which made the game interesting. He always gave me little things here and there because he wanted to be nice, but he didnt really have to. After i was hacked some months ago, he was the one who payed the most attention to me and helped me the most to get back on my feet again. without him i would have probably left the game :[. sadly enough, he no longer plays and moved onto another game.

if i actually win something, i guess ill get myself a set of armor and then give some out to my friends that need it the most as a holiday gift from me

happy holidays! ;]

Berek's wishlist: Chaos Gloves

My inspiration:

Way back when, when I didn't know a lot about the game and just wanted a solid team to play with, I was recruiting for my Guild in LA. And I met my friend Iladin. At first he was reluctant to join because of previous bad experiences with guilds, however I managed to persuade him!

A few days after we first met, we went on Teamspeak, and got to know each other a little better. It's been almost 2 years (possibly over!) since we first met on GW. Since then we've been best friends ever since.

We started to introduce each other to different games, such as BF2. And shared favourite comedians, and had amazingly funny all nighters just chilling and either play/moaning about GW.

Pretty much it really, he's revolutionized how i play games today, he's a pretty awesome guy tbh.

Scarn's Wishlist: Strength Tormented Shield

Reason: About 5(I think) months ago, my account was hacked and just about everything of any value was removed or salvaged. This happened while I was away visiting family, so I could do nothing to stop it. Not only did this cause me much financial trouble, but I was the current leader of The Arctic Marauders[TAM] at the time. Thankfully other leadership in the guild showed some effort and helped to eliminate the possibility of a guild fiasco. My friend, the one who inspired me to write this, at the time had lent me his Tormented Strength Shield, so of course it was stolen when my account was hacked. He's told me repeatedly not to worry about it, but I know it would mean alot to him. I had planned on getting him one for Christmas this year, but school and lifting have taken too much of my time to find the money for one. I figured this contest would help me and my friend.

I've known my friend for about 14 months now, and we're always tight. He can seem annoying, but I always love it. We've spent so much time in the past just having fun enjoying each other's company and playing the game. Getting this gift for him would not only give me joy that I could compensate for his loss, but as a sign of our friendship.

Oh and Jenn, I know you probably don't remember me, but I always loved the conversations we had in game. You have my respect for putting on this contest for a solid and benevolent purpose.

First of all I'd like to thank Illfated for hosting such a wonderful giveaway.

My entry will pretty much explain how I started my GW adventure 3 years ago and the beginning of something big.

While the person I will talk about will remain unknown, I have to say that I owe her a lot today and that it's thanks to her that I became the great player I am now......It all began when I was just a newbie still learning the game back then in 2005.

I happened to arrive at piken square, was just a common player like many others, Saw this person LFG for the lady althea quest, so I invited her and we did it together, It was fun, we chatted along the way and ended up becoming good friends with time. As a coincidence our characters were both necros, only that she was a little more experienced than me *hides* and on the same day we became friends from there on. We held each other's hand in hard times and shared our knowledge and stories. Was the most wonderful experience ever happened to me in an online game.

Overall this person is very special to me who filled my days and has been my fav GW companion ever.
Sadly in late 2006 it was time for her to move on. I still continued with my GW adventure.

Around mid 2008 I made a character in her memory. Her memory shall live forever!

My wishlist for this christmas: An Armbrace of truth.

The person who's important to me is the one who introduced me to the world of Guildwars. He player with me through proph and factions. Sadly he quit playing not long after and sold his acc to 1 of his classmate who's let the acc die away . He gave me a boost when i started the game by supplying me with basic advice and some new friends :P. Still glad that he's still around(skateboard and xbox xD).
Glad that he introduced me to this addictive game, and soon ill be able to start helping my bro through the game.

Thats It!
GL everyone and happy early christmas

I would like to thank my IRL friend who brought me into GW almost 3 years ago. His pro monking skills saved my wammo ass many many times, he also gave me 5k to start off. Unfortunately he quit the game before we got to finish factions together Still see him everyday, although we talk about different stuff now...
