I dont think you gain any exp after level 17.
My Friend is a level 15 W/R and after completely clearing the charr he only gets 2 exp points. The way i understood it is if you are 6 levels or higher than your target you dont gain exp.
Gwen will heal you for 20 points time-to-time once you buy her a new flute. I will test out the cape theory later today.

You won't gain any xp after lvl 16, and I think you might get to lvl 17 by quests.
And 2 xp points? I got 32xp each boss on lvl 15, 0xp on lvl 16.

Heheh yeah I think it's something like 50 solo runs to get to 15 and then at least 100 to get to 16. Reminds me of my dear old get a lvl99 by cow farming days!
What's the total XP needed to get from 16 to 17, anybody know?

Sweet mother of pearl! I can do it without the quests, but it would take me roughly 500 days..

You can't, it's impossible unless you level up the Charr, and that's made practicly impossible.

Because they're the best to lvl. Skales suck even harder, and I don't think there's any other option.

Like I said. You CAN, but unless someone finds a better spot than I've found, it would take literally a year and a half.

Thanks to anets patch that made the charr too lazy to follow you around the best way now is to go to the charr and then letting them kill you.
ofcourse this is hardly an option for any human player but now botters have even more a reason to keep using a bot to run up to the charr and level them...great move anet
And plz..................if you ever find a better non-botter way to level anything do not say this on a forum or it will get nerfed again
pm us in game if you must let anyone know.
I've actually spoken someone who is using a bot to run up to the charr and having them level thos way and I have taken screenies of it but I won't reveal his identity ofcourse, not for the least because that wouldn't change anything for the 'legit' high level players.
And I realy don't see a point for professional gold/dye farmers to level up to lvl 20 as it's just as easy to farm at level 10 or 12 while taking way less time to have to invest in levelling the farming bot before starting the actual farming

I still wonder why ANet nerfed this.. Too bad Gaile or Alex will never see this thread, and I don't feel like making a thread in the Riverside Inn to get them to read it. There was no reason I can imagine why they changed this, it took endlessly long to get to higher level then 17, and wasn't worth it for anyone who was in Pre-Searing for the money, as Dream said.
And now the most impressive thing of all Pre-Searing. I saw a Purple 6-18 Hand Axe today, +14% Dmg (while health is below 50%), probably getting it later today for alot of stuff

I stay in pre-s and once I'm done all of the quests I'm about lv 12. However I really wouldn't want to stay in pre-s to farm when I can use my 55 monk/ele to farm grifs.
Good guide none the less, mabye some info on Monk/Ele? :P

You shouldn't stay in Pre-Searing just to farm, the drops are crap, and dyes don't drop that quickly either.
And everyone would like an axe like I'm probably getting, but it's not worth what I'm paying to almost every player, since it's quite alot
And thanks for the compliments everyone!

Fun guide. You can get decent items in pre-searing, I have a zealous flatbow of defense for example, 10-16 damage; not the best damage but being a flatbow and zealous is nice. Sounds like a nice axe you've got lined up. Maybe I'll get the initiative going and try to get a few more levels on my pre-searing toon, but it is just so long...

It does take a very long time to level up to 16. getting to level 12 is relatively easy. getting to 14 is a little bit harder as only northland mobs will give you xp and at level 14 things realy slow down as only the charr bosses will give you xp and very little at that. This is a long time commitment and usually isn't something players do in 1 haul. I've been in and out of pre for 6 months now and am at 'only' lvl 15 now. It must've taken me atleast a month or 4 to level up from 14 to 15 though most do it a lot faster.
In the end it comes down to what you want. It's somewhat comparable to someone farming 8 hours a day while already having 5 million in gold/items and nothing to spend it all on. If making a LOT of gold makes you happy then go ahead and be happy. Personately I don't waste my time farming anymore as I have enough to buy me whatever I'd need just as that 'super' farmer won't be wasting dousands of hours levelling a toon from 14 to 15 in pre as it's something he doesn't feel he needs

Wow DreamCatcher, I hope you didn't seriously take 6 months to lvl to lvl 15, unless you didn't really play on your Pre-Searing character. My Warrior got to lvl 16 (I did do all quests) in about a month, though, I did play 70 hours in that month on that character
And about the axe I was talking about, I got it! I payed 2 Vial of Dye [Black] and 500 gold. And for the people interested, here's the picture:

I spend most of my time in post and only came to pre when I wanted a break from post. Also I spend a lot of time either chattin, trading and sometimes helping newbs (amongst other stuff). I only farm xp casually

When you no longer gain XP from charr you can let them kill you till they level up. Then you can get XP from them. Pre-searing has no death penalty so this souldnt be a problem.

There used to be a "trick" for this, but it's been patched. You used to be able to lure a group of mobs (mostly Charr) to the respawn point, near the gate. Every time they kill you, you respawn, they kill you again, and so on. You just got them all there, go afk for 5 hours, get back, and kill all of them to gain alot of xp points. Though, now, you need to walk all the way to the Charr, which takes far to long, it's practicly impossible.
