I made a short flash movie to visually illustrate the merging of a Prophecies and Factions account, since theres so many threads and confusion going on.

Haha, nice!

It really sounded simple from the start, but the amount of confusion about it is mind-blowing. Nice idea to create a video demonstration.

Simple and easy, and if people still don't get it after seeing that... well then no hope.

If you have both chapters, you get two bonus slots...

This flash should be posted on GWG front end for easier viewing.

Well of course they can I'm not sure if new prefessions will be able to do quests in chapter 1, but most likely they will be able to.

I dont know if the Sin/Rit can travel to Tyria, so none of my icons showed non-core classes.

if you have a merged account, they can. it was revealed by anet that any character made in tyria can travel to cantha, and any new characters made in cantha can travel back to tyria.

anyway, great guide. i still don't understand how people can't seem to grasp the concept.

Heh. This account merging might seem cool and all but what is this I hear about needing to delete a character if all 4 slots are taken? That is my major concern right there. Anyways thanx for a great job on showing us in a simplified manner how the accounts get merged.

I don't know what you're referring to, except maybe the Head Start 24 hour early access?

I would just play one of your level 20 chars in Cantha.

No offense, but it's not that people don't understand the marketing concept/Anet's decision of the whole 4+4=6 thing, it's that they don't agree with it and think it's BS.

So I'm not really sure who this is aimed at and how it makes a difference.

When you merge accounts, you are NOT ADDING new slots. You are adding new CONTENT.

Think of it as paying for content. Forget that it can be a seperate game, if you intend to merge it.

$30 (typical price of an expansion pack) + $20 ($10 per additional slot) = $50 Game.

People assumed that because its a standalone game with 4 slots, that merging would keep those 4 slots as additional. But think about it. You already used up those 4 slots with your existing 4 characters.

Um, no. This doesn't say anything new to people at all. This argument has been going on as long as Factions has been announced. All I see is that you're trying to reinforce the view of those that are happy with the arrangement. You don't visually or graphicaly dispute any argument at all.

The main problem with your argument is that you only include things like EAs and missions in your definition of "content." Your opposition would define content to include character classes, since the gaming experience is so completely different when using a different primary proffession. Therefore, to them slots are content which can't be written off. Until you address this difference in definition of the word "content" you will make no further progress in the argument. Of course, I highly doubt either side will be willing to give up ground on that point.

Rehashing your side's view of the argument does nothing to further an understanding between the two sides. You have to try understanding why they think what they do before you can try to dissuade them.

EDIT: BTW, you adressed exactly none of my points. Who, exactly, are you trying to persuade?

This is merely a visual representation of Anet's concept of 6 x 100% VS 8 x 50%. Im trying to explain how it works in the simplest form possible (as far as i understand the logic behind it), because some people are still confused. I'm trying to clear up the confusion. I'm not trying to convince ANYONE that its right move on Anet's part.

This is an informative thread about how it works. If you want to argue about it, bring it to the Riverside/Factions and Events forum, thank you.

The people that are arguing about "only 2 extra slots" understand fully where Anet is coming from. Your flash movie is a visual representation of Anet's position. The controversy that is occuring is not because people fail to understand what going but because they simply do not agree with it and think Anet's reasoning is fundamentally flawed.

I don't think you're intentionally pushing an opinion, but due to the nature of the other threads in the Community Works, anything posted here will be viewed as an absolute truth. This, in turn, implies that ANet's move was the right one, whether that was your intention or not. I feel like this is more of a marketing tool than a guide to anything.

lyra_song - Awesome Flash Animation, great job

It accurately describes how anet is doing it and it's great guide and there still people who don't understand how anet is going ahead with Factions.

Also for all those new players who buy c2, and go cool, I want to get c1, how does it work this sums it up perfectly. There will be a LOT of new player new to the game.

Again this shows how anet implemented a mergre. How you feel about situation - please see Riverside or the Factions Forums. This thread was green light by a Mod(s), all community works threads are.

Now I am utterly confused here. I had read something somewhere that said there must be one slot open before upgrading the main account with the CD Key from Factions. If this true then that means I must nuke one character from my main account so I can have the extra 2 slots. Lyra's little guide may have cleared up the 4+4=6 but it never explained whether or not if there should be a open slot before the upgrade. I just need clearification before I delete my newest character.

No, you do not need to delete anything before upgrading.

When you add the retail factions key to your account, it give you 2 more slot, no deletion required.

The delete a character to do faction most likely came from the recent preview event. Where you could be in it with you account, but if you had all your slots filled you had to delete one to create a new character in the PvE Preview event or create a sperate account completely (and not get the benfits of the unlocks on your main account).
