Default Survivor Guide: Survivor - 101 to 301 :P

Hey, I was offering a service to help survivor ppl do quests and mish etc and was kinda swamped with questions and such... so I decided to write up my own survivor guide.
Note:
- This guide is based on Speed, and expect that anyone who attempt the title knows the basics of the game and PvE tactics.
- This guide thus skips many things that you "could" do to achieve the speed.
- This guide also takes the asumption that the player has ALL campaigns

The Purpose of this Thread is to give people seeking some answers and hope to start people's interest and get people to talk about their own experience in the matter.

Survivor 101:

Intro to Survivor:
Getting the survivor title requires you NOT die until you reached each rank in a title.

Rank 1: 140,600 exp (lvl 20)
Rank 2: 587,500 exp (~lvl 50)
Rank 2: 1337,500 exp (~lvl 100)

For Info on what counts as a death and all the basic tips go to http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Survivor
and http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Survivor_title_guide

Personal Notes:
Make sure you "LIKE" your character... Look up all the available armors for him/her and make sure you will like it cause you probably don't want to do survivor on a character you're not going to keep.

Survivor 201:

Getting to lvl 20:

Starting in Proph:
Pre-Searing:
You can choose to do all the quests available here to reach level 5-7 or beyond. since you will NEVER have a chance to come back to this area to gain exp from quest it may be worth while to do this. However, since the exp gain is quite low considering the scale of the max lvl exp it may be too slow to lvl up in Pre-Searing.

*Warning: It seems that different people have different views on wheather DEATH in the PvP battle at the end of Pre-Searing will COUNT towards your death count... Solution: #1 Enter the PvP Area, Press F12 and Enter, Reload your character to start the Story element with henchies, Thus Skipping the PvP (sorry to all those people who really really cares about that little PvP battle) #2 LvL up to 10 or above and just own everything... (bring a heal)*

Post-Searing:
Once you reach Post-Searing, you can choose to do one of several things. #1 Do all the quests one by one and maybe get to max survivor in about a year or two. #2 Do all the EZ quests right at the start and some quests to get the skills you NEED. Then, Do all the Missions in order to reach LA (the better idea). #3 Buy all the skills you need then get a Run From Ascalon -> Piken -> Yaks -> Beacon -> LA (the fastest Idea) *Warning: There are Some zones ie. Yak -> LA run where some places enemies spawn near the zone area so if you're getting a run with Other people you must make sure they DON"T agro the minotars etc...*

Once you reach LA, you should be around LvL 10-14 (probably better if you were around lvl 14...) Once at LA you should do the following:
- Gain Olias
- Get to Faction *Warning: Once you reach the docks in Faction if follow the NPC you will end up fighting some aflicted... Skip this by simply maping to the Kaineng City*
- Get to Night Fall *Warning: Going to NF now is much harder than before so you NEED someone to help you do this... the Grasps do +100 dmg per hit depending on armor

Once in NF do the first few quests to get all your heros that you can get... Pick Acolyte Jin instead of Acolyte Sousuke... (see Builds section for reason)

Get back to Factions.

Once in Factions, Pick up ALL quests in Kaineng City including the ones that lead you to the Emperor's Hand. AND Buy Max Armor!!!

Here's a list of quests (Listed from Guildwiki.org) REVISED to indicate the order you should do them and the important ones you NEED to do. This is the fastest way to do this that I know of takes about an hour and a half at most.

Note: Don't pick up the rewards one after another to save time and make sure you have your newbie heros equiped to let them LvL up.

(For NON Faction Players Only: Pick up Menlo and groupies to let them lend you a hand at the start of this area before you complete Welcome to Cantha)

Imperial Guardsman Kintae: The Afflicted Guard
(After fighting in this Area head straight and south to pick up Minister Tahlen: Passing the Buck)
Barkeep Mehoro: The Drunken Master
Imperial Guardsman Kintae: Feed the Hungry

Go to the Market then Wajjun Bazaar:
(Continue with Passing the Buck)
Guildmaster Luan: The Emperor in Peril
(Walk to Officer Chitaro: to pick up Luxury Goods quest
Zone back to Bukdek Byway)
(Continue with Passing the Buck)
Walk past the Minister fight some guys and make a rigth at the bridge... you'll see Nakai and some other guy... walk to them and let them talk... after the other guy runs across the bridge after they speak you can get another quest here, Too High a Price (I suggest you pay the 250 gold or 5 or 6 jades pop up on you)
Officer Chitaro: Luxury Goods
***Talk to Aiko: Who makes ALL the Jade brothers turn hostile on you... Kill them and lead her to Taojo to complete this quest. Warning: you WILL be killed if you stand around and do nothing so um Run Run Run... tag your party there and run... (Pick up 3 jade capes for Bujo's Quest before you go on...)
Pick up: Bryan: Going Home

(You should now be done with Bukdek Byway after finishing up with all these quests)

Go back to Kaieng City and pick up some rewards and pick up quests
Continue with quests are in other areas...

Note: If you did NOT turn 3 capes into Bujo all the guys in the Wajjun Bazaar Am Fah in this area will remain Hostile... ONLY after you turn these in do they become freindly and make life Much Much easier.

Guildmaster Luan: The Plot Thickens

Bujo: Seek out Brother Tosai (DO NOT DRINK OR NOT DRINK THE CUP after you pick up the reward for this quest...)

Saito: Assassination Attempt
Guardsman Pah: Medical Emergency
Guardsman Tang: Assist the Guards
Guardsman Tang: Straight to the Top
Kaya: Little Lost Bear
Officer Chitaro: Imperial Assistance / Red Tape (Mutually exclusive quests)
Paomu: Problem Salving
(Do these quests in any order since they lead u run around for quite a few rounds...

you can also do
Emperor's Hand: Captured lvl 16+ suggested
Emperor's Hand: Naga Oil
Emperor's Hand: Street Justice lvl 16+ suggested

Afterwards Do these in the Undercity...

Guildmaster Luan: The Plot Thickens
Guildmaster Luan: It Ends Here
Guildmaster Luan: The Shadow Blades
Guildmaster Luan: Lambs to the Slaughter

Finish up with the remaining quests you get including welcome to Cantha once you're lvl 18+

Depending on when you started these quests you will be level 20 if you started around 14-15...

Starting in Factions:

Do ALL the secondary skill teacher quests this will get u to level 10 by the first mish... (very nice :P)

get to zen dajin and buy yourself a run, it is way too dangerous and most likely you won't have enough damage output to get through the last part of this mish.

and Do all the Questing I mentioned above and you'll be lvl 20 in no time.

Starting in NF:

Follow the main quests till you can get a few levels and probably 15 attribute would be a good idea.

Buy a Ferry to Docks to get max armor, buy a ferry to LA and follow the guide above as to what you need to do at LA.

Survivor 301:

Beyond Rank 1:

OK, so you made level 20 in like 3-4 hours... more if you're starting out and have no clue where the questing takes you...

now you may be thinking about getting Max survivor... and once again... I'm giving you the speed version of things...

Note: Do your ascending proph before doing more missions so you can get the 50k for ascending if you do it in proph.

The FASTEST way to get max survivor is to reach Lutgardis Conservatory on the Kurzick side and do Scoutmaster Arne: Securing Echovald Forest in Melandru's Hope.

To do this read up on how to be a doorman for FFF runs. you can get about 2k exp every 4 mins or so i believe... (with this expectation you can reach max survivor title in about 39 hours with over 590 runs of FFF presuming you arrived there at lvl 20 - realisticly probably 24-30 hours of FFFing)

The OTHER more intersting but likely more dangerous way of doing this is getting your character to Gate of Secrets in NF and farm LB points there.

Just follow the main quests until you can get there and FARM away!
With this you'll need the builds suggested in the Build Section bellow.

Most of all, if you choose to do this you must keep your wits about you, and you may just keep your head :P

Note: FFF vs GoS LB Farming
FFF = Faster (good)
FFF = May not be able to find a group to let you doorman for them (bad)
FFF = Can help you gain Amber or work on Factions title.
FFF = Gets you a little gold too.
FFF = Does NOT give you any drops.

GoS = Slower to get there and Slower to farm exp
GoS = You can work on your Treasure Hunter / Wisdom / Drunkard / Lightbringer / Survivor title ALL at the same time.
(Lower your graphics setting to level 2 and you WON'T see the drunk effects to allow you to do battle as usual.
GoS = Drops are Nice and you make good money while ur at it.
GoS = Dangerous if you pass out / alt tab / run while u tag your heros some where else / and yeah its just more dangerous than standing at a door...
GoS = Can be done by yourself and don't need a group.

Now between all of that... you can do these things to spice up your exp farming...

- Skill Cap
- Play rock paper scissors
- And if you are in Proph.
Fight your way to Deldrimor War Camp and do SF runs...
They're not really all that hard... especially not FA...
quests there are also repeatable... (just don't try to FINISH all the quests mearly farm for greens while u get exp)
- Do ALL the little quests you've missed thus far...

Builds: Here are some suggested Builds for PvEing (Obviously They are the ones I favor most) But also feel free to post your own builds.

[Ranger]
Barrage + Pet [BP] = PvE Ownage

Barrage Pet builds are by far my fav. I use it on my ranger, sin, and paragon... you could probably build it on just about any class as effectivly xpt for maybe warrior or derv.

But anyways, Here's the Essense of this build.
Class: Ranger/Monk
Skills: (In order of slot)
1: Barrage
2: Distracting Shot
3: Savage Shot
4: Concussion Shot
5: Troll Ungent
6: Charm Anmial
7: Comfort Animal
8: Lightbringer's Gaze / Cap Sig / Rebirth (or other rez)

Attributes:
Marksmanship: Max
Expertise: 10-11
Wilderness Survival: 10-11
Beast Mastry: 3

Runes: Sup Marksmanship, Major/Sup Vigor, and vites, Minor Expertise/Wilderness If you want to...

Armor: I'd go with +Life armor until you get the title, energy should not be a big issue.

Heros: (Note Changes from regular builds)
Olias: (In order of slot) Attributes: Max Death / Split between Health and Soul Reaping (must have 8 on health)
1: Animate Bone Fiend
2: Animate Flesh Golem
3: Animate Shambling Horror
4: Blood of the Master
5: Deadly Swarm
6: Healing Breeze
7: Heal Area / Heal Circle (same thing)
8: Mending (Disabled: to be cast manually)

Jin: (Note Changes from regular builds) Attributes: Same as Your Ranger
1: Barrage
2: Distracting Shot
3: Savage Shot
4: Favorable Winds (Disabled: to be cast manually)
5: Troll Ungent
6: Charm Anmial
7: Comfort Animal
8: Life Bond (Disabled: to be cast manually)

Margrid: Attributes: Same as Your Ranger
1: Barrage
2: Distracting Shot
3: Savage Shot
4: Winowing (Disabled: to be cast manually)
5: Troll Ungent
6: Charm Anmial
7: Comfort Animal
8: Rebirth (or other rez) (May Opt for Watchful Spirit - But I never needed it)

Henchies:
Healer
Healer/Motivation/Ele (use the last two if only one healer is available to you
Cultist/Blood
Tank

How it works:

This tactic is based on what is commonly used in Tomb Runs or SF runs.

3 BP + 1MM + Henchies result in a Meat shield of Pets and Minions.
Pets die and give MM energy and can make more minions. Note that your Heros have no 10sec cooldown after pet dies so you can manually rez their pets if needed.

Cast Mending and Life Bond on yourself before you enter battle.
Put down the two spirits on your henchies before battle to increase dmg and chance of interuption.

Take down Monks and Eles as usual... but watch for mesmers and necros that can remove enchantments... Counter this by manually casting breeze on yourself and or killing them first.

Note: I see LOTS of people ignoring interupts out there... and favor dmg ie needle shot / screaming shot etc... It is indeed true that Heros can usually out interupt you i'd say 3:1 BUT they don't always go for the most important skills the enemy's casting... thats why you can fill in the gap. Also: Distracting / Savage shot are used right after each barrage because they are instant shots after barrage, barrage will not have reloaded until 1/2 - 1 second later, while other skills would stop you from spaming barrage. Concussion shot works wonders when trying to kill monks, eles, etc... when they cast enchantments that takes a few second, hit them with it and you'll effectively stop them from healing and dealing damage.

Work in Progress:
Will work on it when I get bored or something...

Is it that bad? Most people going for survivor already know some/most of this, but still, it's nice to have as a reference for people who don't KNOW the NF quests, or are unsure where to go next.

As a suggestion: On a Canthan or Tyrian character, do Vizunah Square and Nahpui quarter. This will allow you to change your secondary, so you can cap skills from all the professions at 5k XP a pop. For some reason, Nightfall characters can change their profession at the command post after "Building a Base: Prisoners of War" but Tyrian and Canthan characters are told they have to be ascended or closer to the stars in order to change professions (at least, my rit was told that, I'm making an assumption that tyrian characters will face that restriction as well.) Doing Vizunah Square might be tricky, but Nahpui quarter is cake if you kill all the avicara first, then go back for the bosses. You don't get masters that way, but the risk is really low. Donig just 2 missions is easier than going all the way through to ascension, although you might want to do that as well for the one-time bonus of 50k XP all at once.

Cap skills when you can. The XP adds up faster than you would think. Take the Sunspear and Lightbringer bounties in Nightfall, and max them out. XP scroll + bounty is decent XP for minimum effort.

As you do side quests, if you don't have anything pressing to do with the imperial commendations, kournan coins, or battle promotions, trade them in for XP scrolls. Hoard your kournan pendants as well, I don't remember which quest it is, but one of the "building a base" quests puts a pair of kournan pendant collectors in the command post that give out the gold XP scrolls. While using XP scrolls should just be common sense, doing all this will save you some cash in the long run.

If you know a good solo-farm build that you can use fairly safely, solo-farming is probably the fastest way to get XP. Avoid pick-up groups at all costs, both for your sake and theirs. It's not fair to the group if you bail to save your title progression, and to be honest, chances are you will have to do just that. Play with heroes and henchies, less stress all around, or a group of friends/guildies that know IN ADVANCE that you are working on survivor and who are willing to accept that you might have to bail if things go south.

I despise the faction farming method. At least the folks who go out solo farming have to take some risks. Even the simplest farm can go south if you're not paying attention or get a bad lag spike.

SF is a good idea. This won't net you tons of XP, but it *is* a fun diversion.

Ascension is definatly worth it... if you know what you're doing and have runs or even if ur lvl 20 and fight its only a few hours worth of work... in the scope of things 50k exp bonus is definatly worth it.

Note: I know what guildwiki says about the ascension thing and it is somewhat misleading... you Can Not complete the Nahpui Quarters and Hunted quest ONLY if you started your character in Factions or NF. However if you start in Factions you can do Hunted and it will not effect the ExP bonus. (This was confirmed several patches ago so it may or may not have been fixed) I never bothered with Nahpui Quarters until I was ascended anyways for the most part, but I did confirm that my sin doing that could NOT get the 50k bonus in Proph.

Eh, so what can I do as a Nightfall/Prophecies char? I can't do FFF and I don't plan on going past the Desolation because wurms die extremely fast...

imo is you want to save money instead of doing the elite skill cap way

much easier if your a monk, but you can solo mobs with the help of npcs... like outside of luxon/kurzick towns.... you can help heal/or help kill you get all the exp and add that with a +50% exp scroll u gain a ton in 10 mins

Best way to do this is outside Thiarck(sp?) orchard where u can pull mobs of heket to the vabbian guards.... about 5-7k exp a run only costs you 1 50% scroll which is 200 gold.

You can only change profession after you have ascended, regardless of the campaign. The quest that gets you ascended in Nightfall is the quest that opens up Sunspear Sanctuary("Hunted" I believe its called). It doesn't explain it in game like in the other campaigns so your confusion is understandable. Search for it on Guildwiki, it's there.

Worms are a decent way to farm. Find those stupid mandragors and pommel them. Just make sure you get right in the middle of them and use tunnel and the bite, then charge up junundu smash, then use that and the bite. Rinse and Repeat. They shouldn't pose any threat to you. Avoid the Awakened(too large in numbers) and obviously the Sandstorm Crags(way too much health/defense, in a group of 8 worms they can still be a pain in the ass). The Shambling Mesas aren't hard though. Djinns shouldn't be a problem as long as you kill them in right order(Ruby - Saphire - Diamond). The Margonites, I tend to avoid if I can, the smaller groups shouldn't be a problem though. And of course, if you see that screen shake and see a random like 200 or so damage thing pop up, put on the tunnel and run for your life. You can also chest hunt out there too(Sulfurous Wastes is my fav spot). Got me a couple Elemental Swords out there.

i'm going to do a NF legendary survivor. Heroes.
plus its much smoother and faster to level up in NF than on newbie island cantha (not as much xp being thrown at your face as in cantha, but in cantha a lot of risky and hard shmidt to deal with as well).
so i'll go off to kaineng center to get some of that xp overload after i've 20'ed it on newbie island in ELONA - LAND OF THE GOLDEN SHMIT

Has this been changed? 7k xp was enough to pique my interest, so I took my ranger there today. The only mobs outside were lots of Kournans and Margonites along with a few scattered Harpies. What's more, I couldn't get any of them to follow me back to the guards. Am I missing something important?

I have a suvivor sin, and i might get her to the tomb of primeval kings and do solo runs. you get 250+ Xp for each enemy and the chance of an ecto drop.

I have a second sin that's already at the tombs, and it aint really hard to do, the doppelganger was a joke, took me just 8 seconds and BAMM 50 K exp.

Yeah i think im gonna level her the tomb way

good guide mate, 1 thing that i have learnt however from my survivor is that due to the fast amount of experiance earnt doing quests in cantha, it is far easier to reach r1 survivor if you start there.

however like i say gj

A nice guide, but wouldn't it be easier to just start in Nightfall, do simple quests until you're level 10 and then go to EotN. The walk to the Eye of the North outpost holds only one or two monster groups. The walk from Eye of the North to Gunnar's Keep is equally easy. From there, start brawling with Kilroy Stonekin, which gives 8,5k exp every 8 minutes (6k of this can be enhanced by scrolls). It's very safe, decently profitable and doable for any profession.

You can do the same thing with a Factions or Prophecies character, but it's a little harder then because you actually have to do some more difficult quests/missions before you can go to EotN.

Let us all note that this guide was made way before EotN, and we all know the whole Stonekin boxing thing by now.
