i was wondering about any issues with graphics cards. i read somewhere that nvidia cards had some issues. i was going to buy an nvidia 6200 or 6600 card soon but was wondering about issues with them. anyone know please

I have a GeForce/Asus V9570 TD FX 5700 card (lets hear it for extremely long names) with 256 megs DDR onboard, and so far I've had no issues with the game graphically. There's perhaps a little bit of slow down that might be contributed to the fact its an nVidia card when the ANet people are working with ATI, but thats all I've come across.

Normally it doesnt seem to be that the games are designed exclusively for one type of card and the rest of the world is screwed, its just a 'runs best on' type thing. I had an ATI card before this GeForce one, and frankly I prefer my GeForce. *Hugs it*

just want to say i prefer nvidia over ati also. i bought a 9800 pro from ati and it after about a 4 months wouldnt work or even put anyone on th escreen. my screen was black whether i was playing agame or on the web or nothing. so now i have my old one back in.

Damn thats harsh. Well, I'd suggest going with an Nvida then. What do you got to lose?

Come to think of it, thats why I got my Nvidia card too. When I bought all the parts to build my new comp I just threw in my old video card (the ATI) and within 10 minutes it was screwing up my system, games would lock up and the whole thing would just start making oh so horrible noises.

I have an ATI 9800 pro and I love it. I played for 24 hrs straight this last BWE and never had a problem. I have never had a problem with my card.

With any game...

I have had problems with Nvidia cards though. IE: they need better heat sinks in order for them to work right. Which I did replace and the card did function properly. But you should not have to do that with a $500 card.

The 9600 from ati is a very good card I have that one in another computer.

2 computers using 9800 pro
1 computer using 9600
1 computer using Ti4600 :with a cpu heat sink and fan...Doh it is a monster

I can't remember exactly, but here in the Madison-area Best Buy, they had ATI Radeon 9250(?'s) on sale for $59.99 last weekend after rebates, which seems like a good deal, since the recommended card is a Radeon 9000 I believe. It's too bad that I have pretty much no money right now, otherwise I'd have gone out and boughten that card. I guess I can live with what I have no until I get my new computer in June/July.

you get what you pay for and that is not a good card

you were lucky not to have gotten it

they were making it so attractive to get rid of them

in the future google the product along with keywords review or roundup or shootout to get a better idea

Go to www.tomshardware.com look under the video subcatagory and their will be plenty of info. The site also has a good search data base for online retailers and their prices.

NVIDIA GeForce is the best. I have a GeForce FX 5500 128 MB card. I jsut bought it for $100.00. Its awesome. I recomend it. Also, don;t buy at Bestbut when you can find it cheaper at CompUSA.

The x850 is currently the best card on the market. And noone will dispute it. You might not like ATI but it is the best card.

Dont get any 5xxx series. It just isnt worth the money. I had a 5200fx, which I used for the longest time, but only because it came with my Dell. I got a GF 6600gt about 2 months ago, and OMG, I couldnt believe the stuff I was missing.

my 3d mark 2005 score went from 407 with a 5600 ultra to

2746 with the 6600GT

Yes and No It really depends on the game you are playing. But a big YES if you use it in duel SLI mode.

I just prefer the ATI cards after my problem with the TI4600.

I personally think both ATI and NVIDIA are same.
I enjoyed using both cards.
But for now, comparing with price, 6800GT offers bit more for little cheaper price(compare with ATI).
I have Geforce 6800GT, and guildwars runs very nicely.
Only have 2 problems in guildwars with my video card.
-After the log on screen, the character's face colour(near hair area) doesn't match with rest of face colour.
-The skill icon picture appears corrupted when you drag the icon to bottom right corner of the buy skill window in order to purchase one.

I reported these along with screenshot, so I'm pretty sure it will get fixed sometime

This is from the GW FAQ your 6200 or 6600 is not on the list

There is a known issue with NVidia GeForce FX video cards (GPUs) and driver version 61.77 when the user has changed "Image Settings" to "High performance". Some of the problems include missing terrain. The solution is to change your video settings to "High quality". To do this, follow these instructions: On Windows XP:

1. Open Display Properties control panel.
2. Click Settings tab
3. Click Advanced button
4. Click GeForce "Version" tab
5. Select Performance and Quality Settings in left window
6. In the Global Driver Settings window select Image Settings
7. Move the slider to the right to "High quality"

i have an Nvidia GeForce FX5200 (128) -- works great -- machine has a gig of ram.

my workstation uses the Nvidia Geforce 6800 GT (256) -- works great -- that machine uses a gig of ram

my laptop uses an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 pro turbo (128) -- works great -- machine has a gig of ram

i havent had a single problem running GW on any of these machines. i do prefer the Nvidia cards imo the shading is glossier and image quality is better but the ati image quality is fine (machines with ATI cards seem to have brighter images -- not as 'lush' as Nvidia cards)

i run the game with the image settings at the highest levels on each of these machines and have never had a problem. (Well there was the time i was booted to the desktop during a tombs battle but i dont think that had anything to do with the card

)
