Default I hate mathews int...

I was going to build my own computer with about 900 dollars... then my dad's company hit broke and laid off everyone (without warning, those corporate devils!) now I have about half that to buy a computer with...

Anyways, there is a pretty awesome computer gaming place down the street from my school and the owner will sell me a custom built computer. The specs are below.
1.7 Ghz P4
512 RAM
128 Video Nvidia
Intel Board
80g hard drive
56x CDRW
Floppy
And I can get it for about 150 with a monitor. Is this a good price? Should I ask him to upgrade the processor (I want to play some other games like Call of duty, half life 2 and possibly some other game)? If so to what and for how much? Remeber Im trying to be cheap...

If it is legitimate, then it is a very good deal. It's a stable start anyways. If you wanted to upgrade, it gives you the room. Check the manufacturer of the motherboard also. If you have anymore information let us know. This must be some serious inside work. Make sure the monitor isn't extra.

420 seems average-to-high price to me. I'd try www.newegg.com and www.geeks.com and look at systems. If you did any building of your own you might be able to put something together that you are sure has decent video and processor for that cash, although I wouldn't try that alone if you never done it before. Loviatar, Lansing Kai Don, and Mss Drzzt have great knowledge about this stuff also, a little too in depth sometimes( ). Maybe one of them could post a basic budget system spec that was for more than just GuildWars. At least then you'd have a better idea what to look for that's within your budget. However that's up to them, just maybe a suggestion. Good luck with it.

I built a computer on my own, with a manual to the motherboard and no online guides. The computer turned out to be perfect, I have had it a year now and havent a single problem. This shows that computer building is not difficult if you put your mind to it. I built mine for around $550 minus the new video card I just purchased. And here are the specs...

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.8 GHz)
1.0GB Generic Quality RAM
nvidia evga e-force 6600 GT
40GB WD 7200rpm HD

This system can play GW on the highest settings... all for around $700, you could do minimum settings for $500.
