Default Computer Totally Restarts... Instantly

I've been playing Guild Wars way back since the beta and never have I encountered something like this. My computer will, without any warning, restart very frequently while playing Guild Wars.

To begin:
Yes, I have reinstalled Guild Wars.
Yes, it only happens while playing Guild Wars, nothing else.
Yes, I have tried closing all of my excess programs to see if it was eating up too much memory.

My computer specs:
OS: Windows XP
512 MB Ram
1.7 ghz Althlon XT
Radeon 9600 XT 128 MB Video Card

If anyone knows anything that could help, I would really appreciate it.

is it completely randomly or is it during heavy combat? if during heavy combat or a stressful situation for the compy, then it might be something overheating or a strain on your power supply

there are other threads addressing this issue.

Let me tell you everything I did to alleviate this problem.

I have an Radeon 9500 pro. I installed the most recent omega driver based on catalyst 5.4. This did nothing to alleviate the problem.

I then set all the graphical process to the minimum. This did nothing.

I then checked a thread on this forum. A guy posted a letter from the guild wars support teams saying that he should defragment his hard drive (after setting the page file to zero and restarting the computer). I then, as instructed, increased the page file size to a minimum of 1024 and a max of 2048. This did nothing as well.

So, i decided to start using my own head. I asked my self when my computer had restarted without warning before. I realized this often happened when my CPU or my graphics card were overheating. But why would Guild Wars be taxing my CPU when my computer ran Doom 3 and half-life 2 without any problems? Well, I decide to check anyway. I ran task manager while playing the game, and it told me that I was using a 100% of my CPU's power, while using little memory.

So, I decided to adjust my motherboard settings in a desperate attempt to feel like I hadn't wasted my money. I set my fan to speed ratio thing to a maximum (I'd had previously left it at its default speed). While my CPU usage remains at a 100%, Guild Wars continues to run without resetting.

Seeing as how most if not all of the people who are having problems have different video cards, but have AMD processors usually on nForce 2 motherboards. I think there's a bug or something with Guild Wars that mishandles the processor, causing people's computers to reset in order to keep it from frying. Guild Wars has no business using that much of my processing power and failing, when Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 work without such problems.

However, while I have gotten the game to last longer than I ever had before (by multiple times), I am no expert. In fact, I'm damn near a newbie. So, take my advice and judgements with a grain of salt. I suspect I know very little of what I'm talking about.

My specs:
Asus A7N8X motherboard
AMD Athlon 2700+ chip
Radeon 9500 pro (Omega's soft mod ups it to a 9700)
512 mb RAM
Windows 2000

P.S. I'm thinking about reporting my findings to the support team, but seeing as how they never responded to my pleas (even though I followed their instructions in submitting my problems) much less in the 24 hours they promised, I'm tempted not to. Maybe if the support team checks this website, they'll see it. But I'm still angry.

P.P.S. Here's the url of the thread I talked about: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=5162

None of the things they suggested worked for me.

well, I played guild wars for an hour on a cable connection with very little lag. Before, the longest I played was 5 minutes (it most often last 2 to 3 minutes).

Hello
My computer restarts/freeze/crash>bug report
Exception: c0000005
Memory at address d30f8dec could not be read
bla bla

Athlon 2700/radeon 9600/XP SP2/ via880
latest GPU, VIA drivers

I tried to change agp voltage from 1.5 to 1,7 and than I was able to play up to 30 minutes.
Then I underclocked radeon chip and now my best record is 1 and half hour of gameplay.

I thing the game causing problems on unstable systems, but it is a bug.

Mine isn't that servere. It runs okay but when my computer restarts 3/4 of the way through a mission it gets me so aggravated.
EDIT: Ya... my CPU usage is 100% yet it's using VERY little memory...

Bad idea to change your voltage, i have a Hercules 3D Prophet 9800XT 256 MB myself, (same as radeon 9800XT 256).

I use ATI Catalyst drivers 4.8, they're a bit older but work perfectly.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1024 MB RAM.

Yet again, drivers are the same. I have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe myself.

Also, make sure that you install the drivers that come with your motherboard.

Edit: I don't have any problems at all running the game, i've never crashed ever before.

This sucks. It's happened about 5 times during a mission now. I'm getting upset.
