This is just my personal opinion, since I do not know your money situation and whatnot. But I would go the extra mile and at least get a 9600. Theres a few third-party ones there as well that aren't too bad. Im not sure how well that one would run with a game like guild wars. Even a 9600 is cutting it these days.

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128Mb card, and am able to play it at pretty good setings...

1280x1024
70hz
Anti-aliasing: Off
Terrain Quality: High
Reflections: Default
Texture Quality: High
Shadow Quality: Medium
Post-process effects enabled
Radeon 3D set to Balanced

The shadows can be set to high with little performance hit, though it does run slightly smoother on medium. Enabling 2x anti-aliasing is where things start to get jerky with lower framerates.

If you want to enable anti-aliasing, or run at max to semi-max settings with really high framerates, then I'd do what Ramus suggests and set the 9600 line as the minimum choice.

I hate to add "me too" spam to topics, but I'd reccommend the Radeon 9600 too. It's the best graphics card in its price-range, in my opinion.

The first card has higher clock speeds (mHz) on its core processor and its memory processor. This means it's can deal with calculations much more effectively, thus making it more powerful.

I've heard of people running GW on even THESE specs:

ATi Radeon 9200 (64 mb edition I think)
448 MB RAM (SDRAM, DDR, unsure)
WinME <- surprised it can run anything XD

So, yeah, you should be fine.

Yeah the thing is though, I asked if my card and all that stuff would work a while back and everyone said, yes. SO I bought the game and too my surprise It didnt.

Still awaiting Tech Response....

my mom wanted to start playing with me when i get home from work and what not

. But she has a NVidia card i think its around 32mb lol but when she was 90% way through te install she got a pop up saying this is not a supported graphics card.. it also may be a 62mb but i am not to sure. and i am at work atm but she called and i told her i would get back to her. will she need to download drivers or anything like that?

heh should be just fine my 8500 and pIII 866 w/ 512 of pc 133 is still kickin it at a decently high rez... I keep meaning to upgrade but RL things like bills happen

There are the minimum specs for the game. I suggest making sure everything will run since it sounds like her computer is a couple years old.

I would have her or yourself post the card on the forums when possible and we will let you know if its usable.

She can try updating the driver and installing again. If the message appears, she can probley play the game (I've heard people playing with unsupported cards) but there might be some graphical errors. If it just doesn't plain work, then its time for a card upgrade.

That really sucks that it doesn't work, i play the game on a crapy intel extreme 2 graphic accelerator, 96mb, the game runs fine it doesn't look as good of course but runs just fine. It did tell me right after the game loaded that my graphics card doesn't meet the minimum req, however i just closed that window and started the game, i haven't had any problems

Um, both cards should work... Its just the level of detail you want and how often do you wish to replace it that matters really. In another year (or even in some cases right now) some games might not run that well with older cards.

It should run ok i would think. However like someone says the card may not "last" before it needs upgraded again to stay more current.

With anything better than a Radeon 9000, and with 128Mb or more of onboard memory, this game will run very well. I recognize what everyone's saying about the 9600 and better cards, but you want to remember the crowd you're talking to here... serious gamers, who tend to want the best.

Again, I have a Radeon 9000 Pro 128Mb card with only 512Mb of ram, and this thing runs very well at about 80% of max settings. I mean really, it looks great and is very smooth, even without antialiasing on. Of course, it would be even better with a 9600 or higher.

While everyone would like to suggest that you go out and get a 9800 or higher, those are really not necessary. What often gets left out of this discussion is that if you get too powerful of a card, then you may very well need to add a new power supply to handle it, along with another intake or outake chassis fan to deal with the new heat. Just about every time I've made a major graphics card update to a newer technology level, it required getting a better power supply to handle it. That happened when I moved from the Radeon 7200 to the 9000.
