Default Download Issues

Hey

I Bought This Game From My Local Store, Hurry Home, Start The Install And I See It Says "Connecting To ArenaNet".

It Connects And Comes Up With A Download .... Box.

IT WON'T DOWNLOAD >.<

I'm Running A Simple Crossover Cable Network , If I Plug This Computer Directly Into The Phone Line, It Works, But Somewhere Along The Line I Can't Access MSN Messenger, ANY Microsoft Page, Guild Wars And A Whole Lot More.

Anyone Have An Inkling Into What The Hell Is Going On? I Even Reinstalled Windows On BOTH My Machines >.<

If you're running this comptuer through another computer and its not working, its probably a firewall/proxy issue.

Any NAT server software (even windows connection sharing) shouldnt cause any issues.

I Use Panda Antivirus Which Is Set To Let ALL Connections Through My Adapter.

How Would I Check If A Proxy Is Messing About With It?

Nothing - Panda Set To Allow All Port Connections.

Also I Took Internet Connection Firewall Off , But To Make Sure Enabled Both Inbound And Outbound TCP 6112 On BOTH Computers.

Still Nothing

Are you running off of a phone line or cable modem?

My Cable Modem Plugs Directly Into The Phone Line. Then My Cable Modem Is Hooked To The Downstairs Computer, Which Is Then Connected To Mine Using CAT5 Crossover Cable.

Its Only Recently I've Been Unable To Access All Those Sites.

I'd suggest using a hub instead of going directly from the computer. Just plug the modem into the hub, and then plug it into the other two computers. If it works when you plug your computer directly into the modem, then it has to be the middle man, which is your first computer.

Thanks - I'll Give That A Try This Friday Since It's Pay Day.

Any HUB Recommendations?

So with how it was setup as a default (you as the 2nd computer) you can still access the interet?

Does MSN and the other programs just time out when trying to connect?

Before buying a HUB, I'd see if you can borrow one from a friend and just double check one evening this week before payday. It can't hurt to make sure before using money on the possiblity of it not working of course.

If you don't know of anyone with it, then its your call. Seems a little odd that your network connection has gone kaput suddenly without a reason.

I would go with a Linksys personally, since I had trouble with Belkin routers. You can usally find a hub cheap at any local electronics store. I think this one is even a little more than you need, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124133 but thats the lowest one they sell at newegg.

I Think It Happened When I Turned My Panda Antivirus OFF On My Upstairs Computer.
I Reinstalled Windows (Not Formatted) Since Then, But MSN Says I Can't Connect To There Service, Some Websites Just Won't Load And Guild Wars Connects But Won't Download :'(

Which service pack of XP did you install?

I'm thinking it might be a virus or annoying worm that might be causing your internet connection to slow down more then what a phone line offers.

Download and run hijackthis and post up what processes are running. If theres a virus or bug we can fix it pretty quickly.

(Just as a note, this happened right after you shut off your anit-virus program, or after you installed a fresh copy of windows? Have you updated with as many patches as possible?)

I know I had a major problem with my connection after a format and fresh install that was causing my net to fail and refused to let certain programs like MSN connect with an error of that I need to be connected to the net for it to run.

Main reason I'm suggesting this is because of my previous situation that sounds the same.
