Default Video Problem: CHeckers

Hi

Ive done a light search on video problems and i coudnt find this one.

The game runs fine and all but when I play, The textures on the floor will look fine, but the fall-off on the textures in the horizon will turn into a checkered texture

Some black squares and some are normal textures.

Ive had this problem for a long time also. Im using a Radeon 9200 with 256mb of ram.

My video Arpenture size is 128

This problem has occured since some of pre-ordering testing.

I was fine for some of the Open World Testing and SOME of the pre-order testing.

My video card runs fine otherwise. Other games look fine and all

I thought this would have been an issue solved over time with updates and all but i guess it hasnt been.

Does anyone know of this problem? And how i could possible solve it so that i can run the game withought problems?

Thank you for your time.

have you tried reinstalling - that sounds like a corrupted texture somewhere

A chequred texture is often used in modeling so that you can get the map all nice and regular.

Yeah

Well, Im not sure, its not 100% black and white like you might think, its like a shadowed checkerboard overlayed on the ground textures.

I disabled all shadows, reflexions and post processing effects and its still there.

Guildwars was fine in some of the earlier tests, then this started to happen all of a sudden.

I havent uninstalled and reinstalled it, i just isntalled over the original (i THINK)

Guess i can give it a try.

its also not a driver problem, tried that one

Card may be waving goodbye. If reinstall, etc doesn't help, it's headed to Jesus. I'd start shopping now.

Well like i mentioned above, this problem is only in GuildWars.

I thought at first when I was in the early pre-order testing that it was a bug that came up and would be fixed.

Apparently it did not or I am the only one with this problem?

The newer the game, teh more likely to stress a card.

Try playing with all teh graphics turned way down for a while. If the glitches still occur then it might not be an imminent hardware failure issue.

Try toggling from full screen to windowed mode and vice versa. On the occasions I got graphical glitches, this method cleared them up completely. In fact, this has been my method of choice for fixing graphical hiccups and so far I've had 100% success.

I assume of course you've done fresh uninstall/reinstall of your video drivers plus update of directx...

Understand the reluctance, but really, when it dies, what will you do until you replace it?

Had the same thing happen to me last night, for the first time ever.
Right after connectivity was restored to the game, I was cruising
through Ashford. Stopped to talk with an NPC, and when my character
turned around to leave, the graphics freaked out for about 30 seconds,
creating a multi-colored checker-board environment. Everyrhing up close
was "normal", but everything off in the distance was distorted. As soon
as I turned my character around again, it was "fixed". Haven't seen
that happen before or after that incident............ odd.

This works because the entire screen gets repainted (instead of just updated) when you do that (or minimize/maximize, or alt+tab, or Windows button...). I was getting these artifacts when my old card was overheating.

Zodiak, you didn't say if you had updated your drivers, DirectX, etc. Have you? Have you checked the temp during gaming with the ATI tool? I would go through all the troubleshooting suggestions in the sticky threads before trashing the card, but I do think I hear bells tolling...

Ive tried the drivers as mentioned above

I dont believe you can uninstall DirectX 9.0c to reinstall it though

I also dont have this templerature monitoring tool for my video card that you mentioned above. Where can i get this?

I have one for my CPU though and that remains cool while playing.

I also know that I need to replace my video card. However thats not possible at the moment. I am completely broke and I would have to wait to save up from unknown money sources if it were to broke.

That or go back to my old Geforce

Default Bah, Im getting exactly the same problem

Dont worry mate, Ive got a ATI All-In-Wonder 9200 and its exactly the same, the floors are like a patchwork quilt that slowly hypnotises you, Ive found if you put all settings on high and terrain detail on low its pretty much ok, or at least its a lot better. I just hope they find a way to fix it.

Here it is. Sorry for the delay, this forum software has a habit of marking the whole forum read when I haven't read it yet (does the same thing to me, though less often, on another site that uses the same package).

This thing has a lot of little goodies in it for ATI users. You'll have your card pukin' up hair cubes in no time!
