Default Router Problems

I'm pretty sure this is an issue with my Router at least, but there could be several factors involved. I have DSL and a Linksys Wireless - G router (model No. WRT54G) Have 3 computers on the network but none of them are connected with a wireless adapater, they all use cables. About a week or two after we got Guild Wars for two of the computers we started having strange issues...

At first there was static on the phone lines and every time somebody called or picked up the phone to call it would disconnect both computers from Guild wars and the internet completely. Then after I searched the house and replacing DSL filters I noticed there was a line in the basement that didn't have a filter on it at all. The static continued for about an hour after I put the filter on and then it was gone... (Which I thought was wierd especially since the line in the basement hasn't had a filter on it ever)

I had also opened up the 6112 port in my router's port forwarding. and included gw.exe in the acceptance for Norton antivirus. Now we don't get disconnected from GW at all and there's no static on the phone lines but after an hour or so of the computers being online we can't access any other websites or games. Sometimes it happens to both computers and sometimes one computer can surf the net while the other computer gets dead pages. The connection loss is the same no matter if we started guild wars or not.

The only thing I can think of is that the Linksys port forwarding is for both computers in other routers I've seen the option to forward ports for each computer.. so maybe it's not letting both computers use that port? I really have no idea what I'm doing, maybe I got the port forwarding settings wrong for the Linksys router? Any help would be appreciated, and sorry this is so long...

Your noise problem was definately a DSL issue. The issue you are having with the router is interesting. You usualy port forward based on IP (ie port 6660 forwarded to IP 192.168.1.x). All this does is because you are using NAT the internet only sees one IP 64.24.32.x so when you specify port the router need to know which PC you want incomming packet specified for that port to goto.

In an outgoing sense it doesnt matter because your router knows what machine it came from (enternal IP address) so it shouldnt interfer with anything out going?

You might try a firmware up grade. Can you ping when you internet is down? If so what can you ping (gateway, DNS1,2, etc)?

I would also add that I play GW sometimes on the same router you mentioned and I never opened any ports at all?

I don't personally use NAT, but a few people I know complain constantly about that problem.

I don't know what causes it, but it appears to close it's noose a little bit once you've been connected consistently to another address. It doesn't make a bit of sense to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's where you're getting the problems from.

I can Ping all 3 computers when the internet goes down... I've tried running with no ports opened but the internet still goes down and all the computers lose connection... *sigh*
