Starting last night, I've had major lag, but it only shows up in the evening. From about 11AM CST to 6PM CST, I have virtually no lag. After 6PM I suddenly start having horrible lag. According to the connection chart in the window brought up by ctrl+alt+del (I run WinXP on that computer), I'm not recieving any data at all. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I tried shutting down my computer for 30 minutes earlier in case it was a problem with my computer, but when I booted it up again the lag was still there. And it's only in-game. Nothing else I do is lagging.

My comp's specs:
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+, ~2.0Ghz
512MB RAM
ATI RADEON 9200 SE 128MB (AGP)
"56k" Dial Up connectioin (connects at 115k)

I'm also on a LAN. However, the computer that dials up is the computer I play GW on, so I don't see how the LAN would affect it.

I've been experiencing lag and dropouts all evening. Nothing in my system or configuration has changed since yesterday, and it has been working great since release day. But tonight anytime I logon, it gets about five minutes in before dumping me to an Err=7 connection page.

Called my ISP and triple checked my network settings... everythings seems ok. I've been searching the various forums to see if any others were experiencing similar problems. It appears that some are.

aabout a week ago i added the perf line to my shortcut, from that i have been watching my bit rate. I have been having this sudden drop to 0 then pick back up for ages. I haven't had the other kind of lag for a while though. The one where the bit rate rockets into the 1300+ region (has been as high as 2000b/s)
I also occasionaly have trouble moving using the map? Are you behind a network of somesort? I blame all of mine onto my university

I've been running some ping and tracert tests tonight, and it appears that there may be an issue with the internet itself, or at least the backbone provider for my ISP. My connection to them is solid, but their connection seems to have random dropouts. After about two hours of steady pinging and logging, I'm showing a consistent 3% packet loss, which is unusual for this connection.

Don't know if that helps any or not. I'm going to see if things improve tomorrow.

Most of the worlds work force tends to get online around 6, ripping to shreads any cable modem connection speeds for a while. Happens to most people.

If there is nothing wrong with your system, and if you live in a fairly populated area, you can either cut everyones cable line or just put up with the lag.

If you don't live in a populated area, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Since it happens around 6, thats my best knowledge.

There's only one problem with this reply. I don't have Cable internet. Broadband isn't even available where I live (quite a ways out in the country). I stated in my post that I have 56k dialup. No one else who posted in this thread saying they've had this problem stated having Cable either.

I do know that, at least in the past, a similar thing could happen with dial up in so far as too many people connecting to the ISP's servers at the same time, but I haven't had this problem in the past with this ISP nor have I had lag in anything else (browsing the internet, playing FFXI, etc). As far as I can tell, GW just stops sending my computer data in the evening.

The only other way the "too many people" thing could apply is something a friend suggested as a possibility and that's that most north americans play in the evening which could mean there's too many people on the GW server at that time?

@Dingo Dave, I don't know if "behind a network" applies to my situation or not. I'm fairly certain it doesn't. I have a LAN set up with 2-3 computers (my mum's computer is only connected when she needs to be online, which is early morning and rarely any other time). However, I have a dial up connection, which means that one of my computers connects directly to the internet and then shares that connection over the network. The computer that connects directly to the internet is the computer I play GW on, so the Network shouldn't be affecting it. (I also still have this problem with my mum's computer d/c from the network and my second computer turned off.)

Not only does the web get busier, so does GW. Evening is the time that almost everybody has free, so they all end up going on at that time. Try going on Bnet in Starcraft or Diablo II in the middle of a weekday and note the number of people. Come back at 6-7 and note again. You'll see a difference.
It doesn't do too much to me, though. I have cable net and don't go any lower than 2Mbps, and only get slight lag every so often from GW. It may also be my location, though. I believe I live very close to the servers.

I have T1 comparable broadcast transmission connection, not cable or dsl. In my situation, it ended up being an interference through the ISP's broadcast signal at their main tower. I was with a tech support rep here at the house for four hours today, and we got it straightened out.

Besides just different times of day, or types of connections, there is also the issue of ISP bandwith itself... they all get them from backend providers, and if they are having diffculties it can cause problems for entire regions of subscribers, regardless of what broadband company or technology one has.
