Default GeForce FX 5200 - incompatible???

Here are my system specs:

AMD Athion XP 2200+, 1.8Ghz
geForce FX 5200, 128MB
512MB memory

All drivers are up to date and before the last patch, the game was running fine. Now I cannot start a mission, start a group, or even kill one mob without crashing! Is a fix coming for the repeated problems people are having with the current version? Is it coming soon? Cause I'd really like to get back to sitting LFG in Tomb of Kings.

was that 3200 a typo?

should it have been FX 5200?

I don't think a 3200 exists - you mean 5200, right?

It's obviously not your video card. It was running properly before, right? Think it through...

It seems to me that at least one person's game breaks after every patch. The programmers always fix something and break something else in the meantime (which is pretty much unavoidable). I recommend reinstalling the game or simply waiting for another patch to come along - try reinstalling first though

I'm also on a linksys router, splitting hi speed DSL beetween 2 comps. Again, was working fine pre-patch. Could that be a problem? And yes, I was rather aggrovated and typing fast, so i meant 5200. (Not verizon DSL thank god)

Edit: Scratch that, it's not the router. I just crashed, again! Router was disconnected at the time. Error 7

Firstly, which version of the ForceWare drivers are you using? I always recommend using v61.72 or the latest ones, which are v71.89.

Secondly, if you do decide to try any of those suggested ForceWare versions, make sure you use the Driver Cleaner from www.guru3d.com after uninstalling the current ones and before installing new ones. This will stop any conflicts between orphaned rubbish left over from the old drivers.

Thirdly, have you tried the fix on the support page at www.guildwars.com? There's something about a work-around for problems with GeforceFX graphics cards on there.

If none of those works, just get back to us and we'll try something else.

There's nothing on the support page about a GeforceFX workaround. Is there someplace else I should look? My current driver is 71.89. I had it updated in the last beta event.

this

I am using a NVidia GeForce FX video card and am having trouble seeing some terrain features.

There is a known issue with NVidia GeForce FX video cards (GPUs) and driver version 61.77 when the user has changed "Image Settings" to "High performance". Some of the problems include missing terrain. The solution is to change your video settings to "High quality". To do this, follow these instructions: On Windows XP:
Open Display Properties control panel
Click Settings tab
Click Advanced button
Click GeForce "Version" tab
Select Performance and Quality Settings in left window
In the Global Driver Settings window select Image Settings
Move the slider to the right to "High quality"
The video cards/GPUs that are affected by this problem are:

GeForce FX 5200
GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
GeForce FX 5500
GeForce FX 5700
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra
GeForce FX 5700LE
GeForce FX 5900
GeForce FX 5900 Ultra
GeForce FX 5900 XT
GeForce FX 5950 Ultra
GeForce PCX 5300
GeForce PCX 5750
GeForce PCX 5900

Ah yea, I caught that problem early on when I was in the last beta. The opening cinematic didn't look right at all, so I updated drivers and I was good to go. But even with the screwed up graphics and missing polys, that wasn't causing me to crash.

There definitely seems to be a major trend here at the moment, and each update seems to be making things worse.

As far as what i've seen so far on these forums, a lot is revolving around some sort of Screen or Graphic Glitch and the drivers rolling back are fixing the problems.

I would go with Principa Discordia and go with the reinstall of drivers. Using the Driver Cleaner option in between and go with one of the older sets of drivers mentioned by Principa Discordia.

Doesn't take much effort and is less time than it takes to reinstall the game at the moment. If the problem still persists afterwards, then maybe a game reinstall could be a good thing.

I hope you get it working.

i'm not gonna resort to going back to older drivers or reinstalling until I hear from a mod or maybe after the next patch. I do play other games on my PC so I don't want to make several games unplayable just to attempt to make one game playable.

See my post all the way up. You have my word that the 61.72 drivers are safe, and I've had no problem with the 71.89 drivers, so you should use the driver cleaner at www.guru3d.com and try them.

If it doesn't solve your problem, you can always get back to us. We have plenty of stuff to try.

Ok, I uninstalled my drivers, cleaned, reinstalled them, and I'm still getting Err 7. It's not my firewall, not my ISP, I defragged, scandisked, cleared my temp folders, virus scanned, deleted any useless cookies, done everything except format my HD, which I'll never do for one game. Half my HD is UT mods and I don't have a burner to back those up, so, any other ideas?

So the crashing problem was solved by reinstalling the drivers? If so then yay. As for Err=7, check out this thread. Not sure if it will help you, but I've never had Err=7, so I don't even really know what it is.

Err=7 is what this whole thread is about. It's what I've been getting from the start. It only happens on missions, when I'm with other players. If I'm in a town LFG or if I'm playing with henchies, it won't happen. But once I get in a group and start anything, within 5 minutes, the game will slow, then stop, then I crash and get an Err=7. That thread will not help me because it involves routers. I disconnected my router, and I don't use Verizon, I use centurytel, and haven't had any problems with any other online game.

I wonder what someone could say if you more than exceed the recomended system requirements and keep a nicely clean and cool system?

My mistake, I thought that your first problem was only crashing out with no error. Anyway, as for this Err=7, the only suggestions I have are stuff you've already tried.

1.) Check your network (hardware, software, and settings for both.)
2.) Make the appropriate exceptions in your firewalls for the reccommended ports (which are easily found with the forum search.)
3.) Call up your ISP and ask them if they have an "idle time" or if they're having any problems in general.

Failing that, I think the only thing you can do is send in a ticket from www.guildwars.com/support and hope that they say something helpful.

Addition: It seems that they have a page specifically about Err=7 here.

It was, according to what he wrote. As there was no mention of it in the original post.

Can you get past the semantics please? I said the game crashed. Error 5, error 7, error 69, error 131072, it doesn't matter. I end up in the same place. I'm still trying to figure out how to get past this issue. If you can help, that's great. But please, get over it. I didn't mention the error in the first post because I wasn't paying attention to it. I was too busy trying to get back in game to care what error I was getting.

It does matter a whole lot, because 1 little err 5, 7 etc etc can mean one little fix and you're up and running. If you forget to tell us the exact details of what is happening, then we can be at this all day, all week even.

All the people that help others here have lives as well, and we also want to be playing the game. We help others out of the goodness of our hearts and don't expect to be doing it all day, because some little itty bitty detail gets forgotten.

And if you sent that comment to ANet, they would ask exactly the same thing, and they do get paid.

P.S. Like I said to another poster in another thread, manners get you everywhere in this forum, being an arse gets you nowhere.
