Default Try not installing SP2

**edited for a more open view**

If your pc reboots playing guild wars, try un installing SP2. It worked for me on two totaly differnt machines.

It has made my laptop and pc both reboot time after time until i ininstalled SP2.

I had to share this with you as alot of people seem to have this problem. Have fun now ^_^

So, that's only your problem, I run Windows XP SP2, and it runs fine.

Your only 1-man, just because you get 1 problem, doesn't mean everyone gets it.

SP2 definitely has issues. The last statistic I saw said that 40% of PCs had problems they didn't have before after installing SP2. Updating all your device drivers and re-installing GW may help. Failing that, SP2 seems to have a lot less issues when patched over a clean install...

Er, Loviator and myself have SP2, and I have no problems with any aspect, if anything, it's BETTER than SP1, and I presume Loviator is fine as well.

At my work we are in the process of converting all PC's to Windows XP Pro, actually we're pretty well finished (about 3 PC's left out of 140+). As of about 4 months ago, I started putting SP2 on all the machines, and I'd say we're at about 60% SP2 (that would be about 84+ PC's). Anyways, I would say the problems with SP2 are very rare and likely exhaggerated as I've had no issues with it so far and we run a slew of different software packages.

Oh, I also have SP2 on all 3 of my home PC's and have played GW on all of them without a hitch. SP2 wasn't the source of your problem. You probably had spyware or viruses on your machine that you failed to clean up before upgrading.

Don't get me wrong, I have installed sp2 on a half dozen or so PCs and not had any issues. I am just conveying what I have heard. I think the biggest issues were in office environments where specifc applications were breaking across the whole enterprise. Its probably really less of a Microsoft problem and more of a 3rd party software vendor issue.

I'm gonna tell you to do it if you want your PC to work at all. They put a lot of stuff to take care of viruses and stuff on there, as well as upgraded the firewall and basically rewrote the back end of windows. It's all good stuff, some people just won't update their code to take effect. GW was written TO work on SP2 though...

SP2 has lots of problems if you install it on a computer that hasn't been reformatted in a while. Backup all of your things, reinstall Windows, then install SP2. It should work fine.

This is correct.

Backup your files
Format your harddrive
install windows
install drivers ie motherboard, video card, network card, sound
install sp2
install anti-spyware, (ie spybot or microsoft anti-spyware)
install anti-virus (if you so choose)
install guild wars.

SP2 is a bad idea unless you are doing a fresh install, ive had nothing but trouble on computers upgrading them. Now as for my new computer with SP2, no problems at all.

Sp2 & guildwars work flawlessly here (and I've had zero problems with sp2 otherwise either).

Rubbish, SP2 has no problems with running Guild Wars, it's just an excuse for a pc thats already in poor shape, You continue running your pc without SP2 and sooner rather than later you wont be able to download any critical updates without SP2 on..

You need to find another excuse..

Funny how people will take a side on an issue that isn't an issue...seriously. I had no problems with GW, but had SP2 previously installed. HOWEVER: When I installed SP2, it took me two weeks to fix all the graphics issues I was having with UT2004 and Doom3...Turns out Directx9.0c was causing a buttload of issues...I uninstalled and reinstalled and updated till my eyes bled....finally found the right combination of drivers and got it to work....If they guy says it screwed up GW, then it probably did...Why not offer advice instead of arguing like fanboys about the godly wonderment that you've experienced with SP2...who cares if it worked for you...The issue is, if it screwed it up, how can it be fixed...The warning may be overstated, but there ARE issues...chiming in with"it works fine, get over it" doen't help......<END RANT>

SP2 here and no problems at all. I did, however, do a fresh install not to long ago and updated to SP2 directly after.
