Locks my computer up in minutes.
When I load the game it locks up within moments of starting the game, and
requires a hard-reboot in order to get out! When it crashes my PC actually makes a clicking sound like a relay of some sort tripping. This has never happened before and does not happen with any other games, including Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 at max graphics. I am reading on the net about incompatibility issues with both GeForce FX cards and XP processors, both of which I have. Here is my system. Athalon XP 2800 Socket A processor Chaintech 7NJL3 nForce2 motherboard. KingMax 512 MB DDR 400 (1 stick) PnY GeForce 5900 ultra 8x AGP graphics Card Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 PCI soundcard Maxtor Diamondmax 80g 7200 rpm IDE UDMA/133 HDD LiteOn DL DVD+-R 16 x DVD Burner Toshiba 16x DVD Rom KDS 19" CRT Running Windows XP Professional with SP2 My Internet connection is a high speed cable modem with no firewall and a dynamic IP. (Motorola modem) Just to let you know I have tried running it with SP2 and without. With the XP fire-wall on and with it off. I have increased my graphics card settings and decreased them. Enabled and disabled fast-write. Enlarged and reduced my AGP settings, and nothings helps. The best I have gotten is on reduced graphics settings I actually made it out of the town and into the first play area before it crashed. I need help. |

And one more thing, the clicking sound. Is it clicking or tapping/knocking noise? A tapping/knocking noise is related to the hard drive and is a possible sign of an imminent failure. I would suggest running a rigorous test on your hard drive just to be sure that you don't have any major errors appearing. If it's clicking, it could well be something to do with the graphics card and a possible failure on that part, in which case swapping it out with a friends would help to ascertain if that is indeed your problem. Just remember, when swapping out cards, remember to uninstall the drivers, use driver cleaner which can be obtained from www.guru3d.com and then replace the card and install the drivers related to the new card. If you still have problems after trying these options, then get back to us and I'm sure someone here will try and help you out a little more. |
