Default GW forces computer to keep restarting -- no clue what to do

I think I've seen a couple of other people have this problem, but I haven't seen any solutions for it, so any assistance here would be appreciated.

I only recently purchased/installed GW, but I'm having this problem. About 5-20 min. into the game, without fail, my computer restarts itself. I thought it might be a problem with my CPU overheating, but both Motherboard Monitor and me going into the BIOS immediately after the restart indicates that the CPU temp is anywhere from 48-52C when it 'crashes' -- which, as far as I'm aware, is not hot enough to warrant this kind of spontaneous restart of the computer, is it?

Here are the rest of my specs -- it's a custom-built machine barely three months old.

Motherboard: Abit NF7-S NForce-2 (ver 2) MCP2-T/AGP 8X (400 FSB) DDR400 (AMD XP)
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz
Memory: Two Corsair DDR400(PC3200) 512MB RAM (1024MB total)
Graphics card: Radeon 9800 Pro

Any thoughts?

Going by the other threads you have read, did you try any of the solutions that were mentioned in those threads or just assume that they won't work for you?

It will save a lot of time in having to advise you of the same things to try again.

Yep, I have tried almost everything that's been mentioned that has been appropriate for my particular hardware configuration. I say "almost" because there are some things -- such as underclocking my machine -- that I have been advised NOT to do since I'm not a techie, I've never done it before and wouldn't know how to go about doing it, and have been told many times that I could possibly render my computer unusable. (However, if someone who knows, who would be kind enough to take the time to detail the steps for underclocking a machine w/ my specs, I'd be more than willing to give it shot.)

Additionally, I've read through pages and pages of these posts, and while there have been many suggestions for things to try -- such as reinstalling drivers, cleaning out cases, etc. (which I have done) -- I have yet to see any consistency with regard to whether these solutions have actually *worked*.

That being said, I'm only human and new to the game besides -- I might have missed a post on this board, or some other board with people having these same problems, where anything definitive was actually found out -- whether it's been determined to be a hardware issue, or whether someone has officially heard from GW about it being a bug on their end, etc.

Thus, I wanted to make sure if anyone had any info on something that has really worked for a lot of people to fix this issue. Given the lack of response, it appears not ... we're all still stuck in the same sucky boat. Oh well.

first off why do you have an nf7-s if your not overclocked

that temp censor could be off. but i doubt that its that far off. does this only happen with GW? or does it happen with other games/apps?

when i see random restarts the first thoughts going through my head is:

1. virus
2. heat
3. bad ram

it goes on from there though :/

Hmm.. My computer restarts itself when I run too many programs at once.. But that's probably because I leave my computer on for months consecutively. Maybe it's overheating though I doubt it.

mine was like that too.... similar computer.. kinda

Amd Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2ghz
512mb ram PC3200 Corsair
Radeon 9600

I fixed my problem.. by...changing my AGP aperture size in BIOS to my video card size... and lower my AGP speed to 4x and disable Fast Write.

Mine was a video card problem though.. not sure if this would help you..? Try and see if it solves your problems
