Don't know if this is simply a coincidence or what, but I updated my video card drivers last night for my GeForce 6800 GT to the 77.72 reference version (I believe I was using like the 76.4 previously) and lo and behold my game runs MUCH cooler now and did not crash despite 2+ hours of continuous Pre_Searing running last night....

I have a case temp monitor and usually I see a 10-12-degree farenheit temp rise in the first 10 minutes of playing GW, and eventually get a crash about an hour or so into the game where I get a blue or red screen (with the game still running behind it) which I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del out of back to the desktop. When I get back to the desktop, I fond my screen rez reset to 800X600 and 8 color, and cannot change it until I reboot, whereupon I go back to my usual 1600X1200.

Can anyone else report any better luck with cooling and the newest NVidia drivers? I've tried everything else- RAM and CPU tests that stress them 100% for 12 hours at a time with no faults, etc. so I'm at a loss, but hopefully this will make SOME difference...

Can't say I can help you. I heard of others who have had similar rare issues. I have the latest nVidia drivers and I can run flawlessly for all day and night. In fact I have gone from 9 in the morning to 4 am at night one weekend binge after release. I do note one differnece though between us ...

I use 1024 by 768 screen resolution ... never have I ever had an issue.

Well, I wanted to post that up because I know there are SEVERAL threads that people have put up reporting heat-based errors, crashing, restarting, etc. and I seem to be suffering from them as well, at least until last night. Anything that helps people, right?

Well i noticed my first artifact issue yesterday and i've known that gw runs a lil hotter then other games.. but my temps will go as high as 107 celcius while running gw.. and running games like d3 or bf2 it would only go as high as 90 which is fine..

my video card is a 6800gt and while running in window the temps do go that high
i would like to do some test with u if ur up for it my ign is Sir KraXed i switch off on alot of characters alot so add me to friends to msg me that way.

From what I read, the new drivers are aimed at the Geforce 7 and 6200 AGP series respectively. People who are complaining about these drivers are the ones that sport one of the 5 series cards.

I for one have seen a very noticable jump in the FPS of GW and other games. My card has always ran around 45C regardless. I guess the extra case fans help alot. :P

holy crap, you card goes high as 107C. that is not good. do you have the default heatsink on the 6800GT? if you do, i really recommend you get a custom heatsink like NV Silencer 5 or something similar. it is already not good to have you card go high as +90C. my card is also the 6800GT but i have the NV Silencer 5 and any game that i play, it never goes above 80C. this is even on hot days.

I wouldn't be surprised if he mean Farenheit, but if it is Celcius I'll second the HOLY CRAP.

I would seriously get that checked out or get your Mobo Heat Sensors checked. If your card is running that hot, you'll likely start to fry and cook every component in that machine as the heat starts to transfer throughout the system.

I think people also need to recheck there air recirculation. If you have too many fans inside your PC you can actually disrupt the air flow and cause heat build up due to air pressure.

I don't know the specifics of how it works, but an article I read on this subject by a hardware tester from one of the main hardware sites, like Anandtech, actually found that different air flows inside a case could actually create heat due to the air pressure being produced as the air wasn't getting out of the machine but building up inside the case and causing turbulence or something along those lines.

The setup I have on my machine, is Asus A7N8X mobo, AMD 2400+, ATI X800pro, 1.5gig and several Hard Drives of high capacity, back up drives and several other components.
The fan setup is, Stock CPU Heatsink and Fan, The Stock Cooler on the ASUS X800pro, a fan on the Nvidia Chip I think and the Fan on the side panel blowing air into the Machine.
The only other fan is the CPU blowing air out.
I get a stable 56-58c on the X800pro and around 20-40c on the mobo depending on the heat in the room due to the Hot weather in the UK at the moment.

I run perfectly ok and no problems at the moment. I hope this gives people an idea of how to setup there machine as I find it works very well.
One other thing, I have a tall tower and I think this helps air flow immensely.
