1. Up the AGP Aperture size to 256 and then 512. Ok, you might be wondering why, but I remember an article I read some time ago, that also said increasing the size to double or Quadruple your Graphics Card memory size can actually help with performance. Also, the guy that did this, had a similar card to yours if I remember right, with 128mb. He increased it and it fixed his problem.

2. The other option is to do with your DRAM timings. You will need to check the make and model of your Ram and then look for the dram timings on the web. Then add these into your Dram Timing options. You will need to change the Timings option from auto to manual/custom and then enter the details in the correct settings given in the Bios.

They are just two options that you can try for now.

Only try one at a time as changing too many things at once, never shows you what was actually the cause of your problem.

the DRAM timing seems like a good idea BUT!... i cant change it becuse my bios dosent save changes .. :/ ive posted on the asus forums about this becuse every time i try to save and reboot after saving stuff in bios it hangs in black screen and dose nothing. so i think im going to give in and let a pc tech play with it and see if he comes up with anything. becuse i need my cpu problem fixing to. (cpu under clocked at 1.1 should be 1.7 and able to overclock to 2.1) thats what it was befor this mothorboard was installed and i dont think its a folty motherboard. but we will see

Sounds like you have a duff Bios chip or the Battery has CMOS battery has died.

Why not try changing the CMOS battery and then Reprogram the BIOS again. Maybe try an older BIOS level.

Could be, that if you updated your BIOS, it didn't go through properly and you have corruption on it.

If the BIOS chip is faulty, that would have to be changed.

Either way, if you want to try these or just get a techie friend to look at it, good luck.

I don't think it will be your Processor as you say, you can't save any changes in the BIOS, and that isn't affected by the processor.

Why not check to make sure your Bios chip is properly inserted in the slot. Just gently push down on the chip and see if it goes down any further. You'll notice if it does, as there will be a slight movement and you'll feel a small click into place. About the best way I can explain it.

Have you tried going back to your Original Bios? Also, how do you run the Update, through windows or using a Dos Floppy Boot disk?

You need to get your Mobo looked at.

As you said, you were going to get your Tech Teacher to look at it, you'll just need to find a way for him to check it out.

Do you live with the parents or are you college student out on your own?

Either way, you must have someone that with a car that can drive you there.

Not much more we can do, as it sounds like a BIOS issue that can't be resolved here.

Hi Yes i was having the freeze crash thing with my new 6600gt , The only way i can stop pooter crashing is to keep the cpu below 100 deg , so it was off with the case side & on with the desktop fan at full speed , i think its a guild wars thing they send a prog down the line & if the numbers come back wrong your out of there :P . So i now have a big hole in side case with a clip fan half in the case, it works for me , will post pic of needed

If people are going to try and help this guy, will you at least read the whole thread before attempting to post a solution that doesn't even relate to the problem this guy is having.

The problems he is having seem to relate to the fact he can't do anything with his BIOS. He can set settings, because they don't save. He has flashed the BIOS many times, and they don't work or get locked and he can't adjust anything to set up the hardware correctly.

So please, read before you post.

ANyway, a thought come to mind while writing this.

With regards to your jumpers on your Mobo, have you checked that you don't actually have the jumpers setup incorrectly for the CMOS jumper to keep clearing the BIOS each time you reboot the machine??

Also, check any jumpers you have located on your Mobo to make sure they are all set to the correct jumper settings related to any CPU, Memory and any possible hardware options that your Mobo may have.

Just possible the jumpers may be what is causing your BIOS problems.

Hope this helps.

It definitely sounds as though a) the bios chip is borked and that would explain the underclocking of the chip and inability to save settings, rma the board if you can, that would be the easiest option of get a new bios chip, a new bios chip will only cost you a few quid/dollars.

The problems that your experiencing this can really only be the cause..

However though regarding the screen corruption, I would put this down to the PSU, afterall it sadly is a Q-tec, and before anyone flames me for saying this, they have a very low 12v rail, check asus probe and see what the rails are.....I would say if you can afford it get a new one, I got a hiper typeR 420w for only 40 quid and it's as stable as......

No, because I have a GF6 6600 GT as well and I don't have any problems.

Two ways you can find this out.

1. They should be located in your Mobo Manual and they mention the locations of all the jumpers and what they should be set to, related to the hardware you have installed.

2. If you don't have the Manual, go to the website of your mobo and search for the Downloads section and then download your Manual from there.

Also, I would search through the Mobo Website and see if they have any type of support related issues with yout Mobo and what may be the cause of the BIOS problems, in case there is a fault of somekind with that Mobo.

Hope this helps you out a little. Manuals always come in handy for this.

Just remember, when adjusting Jumpers, have the PC switched off and turned off at the wall, but leave the plug connected to the wall socket, so you are earthed against the PC Tower. Touching components could short something while doing so, if you don't follow this simple rule.

Good luck in finding your manual.

kuji: Its almost impossible for me to read your post. I usually help in the Tech section, but it's really VERY difficult to me (spanish) to understand you without no commas, periods and changed letters.

You should read this:

Thank you

Totally understand your frustration and the same thing occured to me. However, being English I can sort of understand the language, but it's quite possible, people that are posting on here, are either foreign to English and do the best they can or actually have some form of Reading and Writing dissability, dyslexic or something along those lines.

As for those that really do use AOL and Mobile Phone short language writing, yes, they should be deleted until they can learn to write properly.

All in, it's good for them to learn the ability in how to actually use the English language.

If those people where English is not there first Language and do a bloody good job at attempting to write in English, I hold my hat out to you.
For those that can't be bothered to write in English, shame on you.
