Default A concern (Moved)

Ever since Guild Wars release, I've been able to play flawlessly. On a 56k modem no less. Yesterday, however, a passing thunderstorm fried my old modem. I went out and bought a new one, came back, hooked it up and connected. Then I started up Guild Wars, downloaded the new patch, but then I couldn't log on. Later on that night, I was finally able to, and yet today, I haven't been able to log on all morning. Is it Guild Wars itself, or my modem? And if it is the modem, why was I able to connect last night and not today? Sigh...

In the other thread, someone said it probably is my modem, which makes no sense if I could connect last night. Is there anyway to fix this problem, or do I have to get a new modem?

The modem is a 56k Mach 2 from Smartlink.

If you bought a new modem to replace the old modem, did you remove all the old software related to your old modem and configure the new modem properly with your internet connection.

Also, do you run any firewalls? If so, you may need to delete any GW associations in the firewall and let the firewall redetect those settings. It may be a case that the modem isn't being picked up properly by the firewall to let you play. Games need a constant connection a lot more than normal browsing does.

Actually, I found the solution. The new modem comes with a Modem on Hold feature, where I can pause the internet connection so I can make phone calls. I found out I can disable that feature, and now Guild Wars works. Weird.
