Question Please Help

Guild Wars Works very good (the occasional uneffecting lag) for me unless im in a city with alot of people... then it Lags ALOT and really bad and all that stuff.... anyway is this because of my internet connection or my video card??? (or something else i dont know about)

this problem started tuesday.... before that it worked fine no matter how many people

Also, if you would please post any possible solutions you have i would appreciate it...... Thanks!

Running----

CPU: 2.4 GhZ
Ram: 512
56k dial up connection (usual connection is only around 30k though)
my video card is...... -NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS -memory size is 32MB -bios version 2.15.0107 (i can play with everything maxed out)

Helps if you post your system specs, OS you are running and what sort of internet connection you have.

Well, with a Vid Card like that I would suggest turning down all your Graphics settings and see how it performs then. Don't forget, the more work your card has to do, the more work the internet connection has to do, in loading through all the information. More so with a 56k modem.

Also, the memory on the card isn't really enough to keep the game running at full speed and with max settings.

Give this a go. Any more problems after that, then repost here and see if we can help you out.

It doesnt matter if the video settings are all the way up or down.... it reacts the same either way......

this started june 27 (it is june 30 right now) before it worked fine weather video settings were all the way up or all the way down too

I would say the connection plays a big factor on the lag you are getting in towns. The graphics card isnt all that great either so that might make it jerky in places.

This one is not due to the video card, but network lag.

ok..... also, when i say it 'Lags' in the cities.. it more like pauses for like 1 to 3 min, then works for abour 5 secs..... and usually resets my person back to where it was when i start to go a little ways.... the only in game fix i can think of to do is just find a district with only a few people in it (which is really hard to do at some times during the day/night)

just a bit more information--------

Last week my friend was over and we had a LAN setup and we were both playing GW with the graphics all the way up and it worked fine..... so my internet connection was working good enough for 2 people to play GW at the same time....

so my questions are---- have the GW people created any updates that may have caused this? or is my computer going down the crapper??? Would installing Service Pack 2 help at all???? (or do u guys have more ideas of what it could be and/or how to fix these problems)

A LOT of things can create Lag. Usually, anyone here can tell you that they get some kind of lag in the cities. Recently there was some bad lag, which I was told was due to illegal bots in the game.

When in cities my FPS can drop between 12 and 24 fps in cities but stay a constant 30 to 60 fps outside of the cities.

Oh, and DO INSTALL SERVICE PACK 2. That fixes a ton of things in Windows XP.

well, i dont know much about dial up modems vbut if they are anything like cable modems or dsl modems...

you could download some uncapping software hack your modem and remove the pesky bandwidth/speed limiters...

like i said i dont know much of what im talking about, just read a bit about it

P.S.- ^^ thats illegal

I always thought cable and DSL Bandwidth is limited at the Exchange or by the Cable company and no way to get around it.

Ok, you sometimes see the speed go way above the limit you have, but it quickly drops back to the correct speed.

If people are suggesting you can, I would seriously check this out first, as you may get more of a surpsrise than just a hack. You may get hacked.

have any new hosuing areas been finished in the last few days near you?

i now it sounds dumb, but hear me out.
a friend i know is a go-to-your-house-fix-ur-pc guy, and he had a customer thats dial up modem was cuting out all the time. turned out that his house was now too far from the exchange (the green boxes and so forth) because a new housing estate had just been finished and they had now run the phone lines *around the new estate* and then into his street. instead of running a *new* cable off the main line ^^ typical shoddy tinking on the part of builders lol
(not meaning that all builders are like that, just the quick-fix-make-cash-fast lot we have round where i am, befor anyone flames)

so....are their any new houses that weren there/finished befor?

no ther has been no new house work and/or new houses... although there has been road work. but the road work hasnt affected my friend who accually lives in the city were the work is being done.... i live about 10 outside the city.. and the city is more like a really small town so the only type of internet i can get are dial-up and there is a little satelite internet provider in the little town thing that i could get (but 400$ installation charge stops me from doing that)

2. Get service pack #2

3. Are you using a TRUE 56k connection? Test it out here.
