Try disabling aa and put all the settings at low.

If that does not work, try a complete reinstall of GW, remembering to delete the GW folder after uninstalling and before reinstalling.

Be sure all your drivers are up to date. That usually fixes so many problems.

I sometimes get the white boxes when the server is being slow. It usually repairs itself for me by restarting the game - it's not a graphics board issue.

I've never seen white boxes and I can sometimes play Guild Wars for hours. What I do notice is sometimes after loading up, ppl will be black in colour, like a silhouette, before the skins get loaded.

white boxes in other engines are often shader problems

Im not certain, but does that card support pixel and vertex shader?

Well, he said "Geforce 4200 FX TI". There is no such card. He could be talking about a Ti4200 OR an FX5200. It's hard to tell given that he doesn't appear to know anything about his computer. For the last time, it's not a video card problem. Reinstall your drivers or get new ones if you want; maybe even reinstall the game but I'm telling you that it's not necessarily a client-side issue.

that made alot of sense.

"it's not a video card problem" "renistall your drivers"

if he had to reinstall his drivers it WOULD be a video card problem.

this problem is generally due to a server side lag that happens right before the images are rendered. you lose the packets and the client forgets to render them. Just try restarting the game.

How typical. Someone like you ALWAYS does this on this forum. Read my post. For crap's sake, I specifically said to try his drivers if he wanted to, even if he didn't believe me about the video card. I told him earlier to restart the game and all but nobody listens.

Seriously, read the whole post before you attack someone like this. Typical forum troll.

What are your machine specs including driver versions and OS.

the picture above looks like what happens when your overclock your vid card too much.. try underclocking your card.. and make sure its got enough cooling

Well I don't know all the details about your computer but seeing as how I had the equipment to test this I went ahead and did on a number of setups.
First off it seems it is a graphics card and processor issue.
Let me explain:
Test 1
a. Running an old graphics card PCI with No pixel and vertex shader on an Old computer (IE. 400 Mhz) I get the blocks really bad, usually takes 15+ minutes for it to correct itself. (even then it was very choppy at best)
b. Running the Same Card on an 866 Mhz (with MMX and 3D now on it) I was still getting the blocks but only for a moment (like 5 to 10 seconds).
Test 2
a. This time I used an AGP card with the Shaders. On the 400 Mhz computer I had white blocks for about 5 to 10 seconds upon entering a town. and a lot of lag (processor obviously, but for the sake of the graphics it works).
b. Ok same card on the 866, Well no blocks works great. simple as that, Low Graphics settings looks good and is only slightly choppy in towns.

So I guess it looks like the old computer was having a slow time processing the information from A-net and that's why it knew where the people where just didn't have all the processing done for the pixels and shading of those characters, so when I put in the new video card it was able to take a load off the main processor and do the shading and graphics work itself. (still it took a few seconds cause of how slow the processor was getting that information to it.) Same thing with the 866 without the shaders the processor was having a hard time keeping up with everything and thus gave us the problems, but with the shaders it was able to focus on it's main job of "processing" what was going on.

(just as a side note: I have a 3mb Broadband connection and do technical support for several small businesses, thats how I was easily able to test this. I also put both those cards on my AMD 64 3700+ computer at home, and didn't have any blocks in either one (obviously the processor could handle it.)

this is just a thought, not sure if it applies to you or not, but why not try it. Clean your computers inside of dust. maybe it is overheating? dust with compressed air of course!!!! My graphics were getting funky...texture related and I knew it was a heat issue, i looked in case to see if fan was twirling and it was so i was like ...okaaayy.

I then re-seated my graphics card and while i had it out blew out so much dust between the heatsinks it was not even funny! my fan worked but was not getting AIR!!! make sure this is not ur issue. and a re-seat may even be what does it....(what is a re-seat? simple! while u are grounded take out your graphics card and put it back in! thats it.)

let us know what happens.

If your scared to fiddle with your systems interior, then dont, get a friend who knows what they are doing, its not hard at all, but just dont be the guy standing on carpet with wool socks on and fleece sweatshirts after dragging your feet on carpet then touch ur systems inside and not be grounded.

As far as the WHITE BOXES , I've had this problem before. I'm pretty sure its FSAA related. ( Full screen Anti-Aliasing ) It's happened to me before with AA on , and switching to windowed mode, thus removing the Full screen AA effect. Then when switching back, I got the white box syndrome on all rangers.

Pretty sure it bugs the graphics software/driver, at least in GW's engine.

As a quick fix, if restarting the game doesn't help, ( which it didn't for me ) just restart your computer, thus restarting your graphics card driver.

Haven't found anything easier, but it works.

I get this all the time, and I'm using:

P4 3.0ghz, Fx5900XT

I've got AA on 4x and everything as high as it goes, 1152x864.
