Default Lots o' problems

I've been having a great deal of problems with Guild Wars ever since I got it. At first my computer would constantly over-heat, reaching CPU temps of over 130 degrees (F) (the mobo's built-in danger point) causing it to automatically restart. I've since added a few fans and now I can run GW without going above 120 (F).

And now the real problems start. GW constantly crashes, sometimes taking Windows down with it. Sometimes it just restarts my machine without my CPU temp even breaking 115. I don't even need to log in, it'll shut itself down before I even get past the log-in screen. I've tried reinstalling it several times, deleting the original folder each time, so every re-install is completely fresh. I know this is a very generic problem, with no definite cause, but I'm looking for helpful suggestions. I know for a fact that all my drivers are completely up-to-date, as well as all of my Windows updates.

For my final act, here are my system specs.
OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU: Pentium4 3.0 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
GPU: ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 256 MB
HDD: 160 GB, 70 GB partitioned for Windows and installed programs

If you need any other info about my system that you think could help, I'd be happy to help.

Where to start...hmmm

If you cpu is overheating and causing a shutdown, then it is a big problem, first off check to see if your CPU heatsink/fan hasn't become loose, while your doing that re-apply some thermal paste on the cpu, use arctic silver of something of that calibre..You will find the cpu temp will come down by quite a bit, meaning potentially less crashes for you...

Good luck...

Thanks for the reply. The overheating is no longer a problem (Actually, it was just a few days ago that I did exactly as you said). Guild Wars just shuts down my computer for no apparent reason, and I can't think of any way to solve the problem.

What ATI Cat drivers are you running?

I recommend rolling back to Cat 4.11 for that Vid card and see how the game performs then. Remember to use the Driver Cleaner program inbetween installs to remove any duplicate files.

Hope this helps.
