Default HELP! Too many beautiful pics!

I'd like to know if there's a free program able to convert my 1001 .bmp (also known as "evil and enormous) to jpeg format (also known as small and not so big). I also want to get it done in under 5 minutes of effort from me (the computer can work on it all night; it doesn't get tired, and it never seems to get bored of doing the same old boring job).

I'd really like to free up some of the 2.2 gigs it's taking up . When I checked my computer, it said GW only took up ~300 MB, but it wasn't counting my screen shots! Can anybody point me in the right direction? Also, my screenshot folder is full, and now I can't take more pictures .

HELP?

There are lots of image converters out there, just google for bmp2jpg or something.
I use ACDSee for this purpose, but it's shareware.
This might suit your needs: http://www.imageresizer.com/

As for screenshot folder being full, just create a dated archive folder somewhere else and move your pictures there. Then GW will start over from index 1.

You can use the free IrFan image viewer. It has a "batch conversion" function, so you can use that (it has many parameters you can set for the conversion).

the URL is: http://www.irfanview.com/

I never even THOUGHT of programs like these. I just sifted through all of my pictures in photoshop one by one saving them as jpegs. Wow, I want my 2 hours back.

hmm.. here's an idea.. For those on Windows XP

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> PAINT

Yes, the stock standard boring Paint program with comes standard with Windows. Drops those screenshots from 2,305 KB all the way down to 132 KB when you save them as .jpg

sure, you can't adjust what size/quality %/scale with Paint.. but it does a damned fine job of converting huge .bmp files down to small and managable .jpg files... and it's free and you don't need to go and d/l any program from some website that might be full of viruses, spyware, trojans, malware, etc or might have this ugly "please support us and pay!" popup when you run it

A quick simple and small program that converts anything in a jiffy. Of all the converters, I really like this one.

You know you can do the same batch processes in Photoshop (since version 2.0 iirc) as well, right?

you can scale in paint...and you can resize.

but this doesn't suit his needs as you can't do it with batches of files...he wants to eliminate the need to open every single image and resave it.

I use this http://www.softaward.com/text/free-download-296.html

but it's not free

I also use IrFanView...which is a fantastic application...and it's free.

IrfanView is good, it has a nice batch conversion function so you could take all the pictures in your folder, convert them to JPEG, and then delete the originals automatically if you like.

Whoops, I didn't notice that he wanted to do batch conversions. My bad.. as indeed, I don't believe paint can be used to batch/mass convert without opening each file. And if he has 1+K pics.. doing it manually would be a pain. glad others know of programs which can do batch conversions
