Default Getting the best out of my cpu...

Specs are:
Pentium 4 - Geforce mx 4 - 2,40 Ghz - 256 RAM.
Now, loading times in Guild Wars suck. They do in most games. I'm trying to find programs that can make my computer alot faster...
I'm using Disk Defragmenter every day (that helps a little bit... shortens the loading times but they're still horrible)
I sometimes scan for spyware using Hitman Pro (www.hitmanpro.nl), it helps, but loading times are still bad.
So, anyone got some ideas? (and i'm not buying new hardware btw!)

Well, your load times are going to be pitiful unless you get new hardware. Your CPU isn't the problem though, it's fine, it's RAM you need. You could probably find 256MB of RAM for less than $70 (USD), other than that, you could try http://www.tweakxp.com/ for some tips to optimizing your system, but even that won't make too big a difference.

without buying new hardware you aren't going to get much more power out of your system....the hardware in your system is 5 year old technology.

btw: defragmenting your computer every day isn't helping...and it's certainly doing more harm than it is good.

AceSnyp3r is right, your problem lies in your ram. I could barely run 'Doom 3' on my cpu, but then I bought a 512 MB of Ram for $60 (CDN) and now I can actually see in it. You would be supprised on how much a bit of ram would effect your CPU, looking at GW, it almost brings a tear to my eye...

I concur, my wife and I use similar machines until I upgraded my hardware recently. She still uses the 4 year old machine - AMD 1900+ with 1GB ram and Ti4200. GW runs quite well, although not with all the visual bells and whistles.

Once you give yourself > 512MB ram, I find that the next bottleneck is disk access. To upgrade that will require more than the cost of the RAM.

Good Luck!
