Well after experiencing a major update in my computers hardware, (and missing 300bucks) It was WELL worth the dough
What i did was:
Upgraded to a dx 9 era card (9600pro)
upgraded to 768 megs of ram(256 stick and a 512 stick)
and some fancy mouse and keyboard stuff

Now the important things

What changed from the dx 8 era to the dx 9 card;
Water is INSANELY better looking
Spells look great
Much better framerate/Overall LOOK of the game at 12##/1024
High quality really means HIGH QUALITY
You can have all the bells and whistles on now

The ram boost, Much faster load times,(almost instant, will depend on your cpu)

Now alot of people are having trouble with how it looks/plays

Now i spent 300, alot more of you are gonna say OMGWTF i dont spend that much
You can EASILY spend half/less than half of that by ordering off ebay (www.ebay.com)

Thought id share some really general info about upgrading and how great this game is after it.
If you dont want to shell out 100 bucks for a 512 stick of ram, please just upgrade to a dx9 card, (the 9600xt goes for 90 dollars at, you guessed it, ebay) And please PLEASE make sure its the 256 meg version not the 128, the boost in the v-ram is also VERY noticeable in game

(its late and im sorry if this is jumbled up, Hope this helps some of you havin troubles with hardware)

My hardware is pretty old, but I am running a BFG 6800Ultra and 1 gig DDR333 RAM on a 2.5ghz P4... works pretty well at 1280x1024 max-quality settings. I also agree about the mouse... using a Razer Diamondback (not for everyone, but it's very fast and precise).
