Exclamation Why cant i Connect to area net??

ever since i tried to get the new patch yesterday i have been unable to connect to area net (for reason unknown to me) can any1 give me advise help me fix this (and am i the only1 having this problem??)

The only reason I can think of is that you aren't properly connected to the internet, if I ever can't connect, thats the cause.

Do you use a firewall?
Mine tells me GW.exe has changed every so often and if I want it to allow access.

yes i do and its all set up properly i have never had a problem with it befor last night and its not my internet cuz im on here how ever i do have a virus in my computer and im getting some1 to help me with that...could that be the cause of this??

yea mine will do the same (did it to me when i went to dl the patch) but it still wont connect

Hmm, not sure.
You could try removing it from your firewall and re-allowing maybe?

The same thing happen' to me for like 1 week ago, i couldnt connect to Arena Net.. But just after that mu computer went all funny,.. so i havnt played it since then :S
Casue my graphic card have some reall weird probs..

I would say you should try to reinstall it, that would work i think!

Ok, I've explained this in the past, may as well do it again.

The internet is like the US road system. The further you are from a particular destination, the more routes you have to that destination. Data on the internet picks a particular route and follows it to it's destination. If something in that route breaks (crashes) your data can't get to the destination. Just because you can connect here, has no bearing on whether or not you can connect to your GW server, the data could be following 2 completely different routes and one of those routes could have an issue.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that be a simple network?
The routes on the internet are myriad and if one is blocked the data will find an alternative route.

Fear, I replied to your pm...I'd deal with the virus first. Any luck with re-installing?

Actually, dargon is correct. Although the internet is a complex network, it basically works just as any other network. When you attempt to connect to a site, your outbound packets are sent in a specific direction, based on the destination. Each router attempt to connect to the next one its programmed to. Some will reroute, but anyone that has ever dealt with the wonderful world of Quest "hops" know how bad they can be about that. Pretty much at any point along that trip, a server can be down, and rather than reroute your info around the blockage, the packets are generally dropped because they didn't get the proper response from the next router in the hop. I'm not sure if the official GW site is in any way connected to the game servers, but the first thing I'ld try is getting on thier site to see if you can connect. If not, then likely there's a router in between causing the problem, and you can check that by doing a trace route in the command prompt (if you want to try it and don't know how, shoot me a pm). If the game servers and GW site servers are separate, then it could be possible to connect to one, and not the other.

If you are using a firewall than that is the most likely culpirt behind your connection problems. Anytime there is an update with GW the firewall needs to ask you to give GW.exe permission to access the net again.

I use ZoneAlarm and that's what happens to me whenever there is an update for GW.exe. So either turn off your firewall when you play GW or go into the settings and allow access for the program.

It might also be WinXP SP2's firewall protection program that is blocking access as that program will also block programs that do not have permission to access the net.

Having made it to this site he's made it past the simple routers and those on the backbone have many more routing capabilities and knowledge of congested/down routers and should try to find an alternative route. If you tracert an IP/site chances are that 1/2 hour later the same tracert will show different IP's. But as you say that's just the theory

I'm not trying to start an argument, really, so I'll accept that you have more experience than me of this. My point however was that a post basically saying the internet is blocked is not useful. (This advice coming from someone who thinks their IP is 192.168.0.1!) No information is better than mis-information and not knowing someone's amount of computer knowledge there would be a logical series of things to check before assuming the internet is at fault (as people have suggested above). I suspect the virus


I don't know which servers Fear connects to, but the EU ones are certainly in a different IP range than the site, (although the EU server is in Texas?).
