Default Video Card Problems

A nerd without guild wars... im gonna cry.

OK, i had a problem with the computer, i had to format it and lost everything. First thing i install... guild wars! First It went through and installed everything fine, then when i clicked on the game it says...

"Unable to initilize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 8 and an updated version of the video driver."

So i thought oh ok, i just need to install directx from the cd and it will work fine. I put the disc in and out and click the direct x thing, goes through a process (doesnt ask where i want to install it nor tells me where is, still havnt found it) then says its installed and ready to go. I go to open gw agian, same error! I tried installing it again, went through same process. Same error. Downloaded directx 9.0 and installed it from a website. Same error!!!

Well, I'd have to confess that my video card is a little out of date, Guild Wars ran before as long as i had it on pretty low quality, and I never had any problems installing it the first time when i bought it(day it came out ^^).

Any idea what im doing wrong or have forgotten?

edit: I forgot to try reinstalling the program, I'm trying that now and maybe that will change it.

List your computer specs. Also see if you need to update your video card drivers. I'm sure directX doesn't get messed up easily. I suggest some people to not update their video card to the latest drivers unless they are experencing a lot of bugs, restarts, freezes, lockups, etc. I know that a lot of the latest drivers out there reduce the performance of your gaming.

Also list down what version drivers you are using. You can check your computer specs by downloading SiSoftSandra, CPU-Z, Device Manager, or something helpful.

If not just try to put these down,
Operating System:
Processor:
Ram (The amount and what type):
Video Card:
Video Card driver version (from device manager or display properties):
