Default Energy Bug - Screenshotted!! WTF?!

The screenshot describes it completely.

Has been happening (to me at least??) all the dang time for the last week, maybe two (possibly even longer, but this is when I noticed it). It makes it near impossible to use my monk for actual PvP, and certainly makes PvE harder as well. I don't even want to GvG until it gets fixed.

Check it out.

ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM??

(Sorry about the crappy color, I saved it in Paint to auto-compress it, and it wacked the colors out)

If you didn't notice...I have 13 energy trying to cast the 5 energy spell Mend Ailment. It says "Not enough energy." Please...I think that's more than enough.

It seems to start off not so bad (requiring 6, then 7, etc), and builds up and up. VERY FRUSTRATING. It does NOT cost more [6, 7, etc] to cast, but only requires that you have an energy pool higher than stated requirements for that skill.

This bug effects all energy-requiring skills (for MONKS and MESMERS at the very least, I have no other spell-casters in which to test).

I have no other issues with GW, I have cable internet which is surprisingly fast, I run no programs alongside GW (besides winamp), my comp is up to date, no virus', etc., etc. It's just that this bug that prevents me from doing much of anything with skills and spells after a little bit of time. And it doesn't take long to get pretty ridiculous...note the 3:50 match time.

I'm in the dark here, and very surprised nobody else has brought this problem to light.

Posting more screenshots and info as requested by the Guild Wars Support Team.

- Firstly, please attempt these spells again. Are you still being affected by this glitch?

Yes, still being affected - in all modes - PvE, PvP, and I can only assume GvG as well. All spells and skills affected.

- How frequent do you experience this effect?

All the time. At first it is non-existant. Then, it creeps up slowly, getting worse and worse - soon requiring you to have a energy pool MUCH higher than required to cast a spell.

- Does it occur only in PvP matches?

No. All modes of play.

- When this occurs, do you have any enchantments or hexes on your character? If so, which ones?

Yes and no. It seems not to make a difference either way.

- If possible, please attach a new screenshot of this issue to this ticket.

Done. Notice that this time, it was during a PvE mission [Elona's Reach]. There are also no ranger spirits, etc., to inhibit the energy cost of the spell(s).

I don't have a screen shot myself because I thought I was imagining it, but this has been happening quite a bit on my Ranger/Elemental as well. More then once I have tried to cast Fire Storm with 20 or more energy, only to get that message.

It is usually easier to bring the bug out in PvP because of the sheer rate you are spamming heals. Takes a little while longer in PvE because your energy doesn't get drained [usually] so quickly. Honestly, I'm surprised not more people have even mentioned this bug...there's no way it is just on my end. Please reply accordingly in this thread if you have experienced the glitch. GW Support will be checking.

This also has happened to me before. I thought it was just a hex that i hadn't noticed, or something else like that. Turns out i'm not going crazy. It only happened to me once, so it hasn't been much of an inconvience so far.

This is indeed bizarre, but I've not come across such a bug when GVGing with my monk yet. It's a bit unsettling, and I'll see if it happens tonight.

Divine Boon has always been an upkeep enchantment, so it costs -1 regen to maintain

Next time this occurs with your character, try typing "/health" (without the " marks). This command will cause the server to tell you how much energy you have. This looks like your client and the server are disagreeing about how much energy you actually have (the server is always correct).

I usually get this problem when my internet connection is laggy. Sometimes when I try to play during Europe peak hours, my client tells me I'm dead but still playing (doh!), or that I'm still able to damage a dead opponent for a few seconds (yellow numbers on a target with an empty HP bar). Then, all of a sudden, the client and the server talk again, and 3 untouched monsters drop dead on my screen and my HP bar is full again.

As explained by Alex, it comes from a combination of lag spikes and of the algorithm used by ANet to absorb these spikes. This software is able to hide most lag spikes you encounter, but sometimes the desynch is too long and you can notice it.

There is a smart algorithm on the client & server that tries to extrapolate the current combat to avoid the freezing effect you can observe on most online games. If for some reason the client and server cannot communicate, the combat is extrapolated on both sides, but the client and server are no longer synchronized. When the client and server are able to talk again, they are re-synchronized. If the desynch was short, you can't notice the re-synch. However, if the desynch was notably long, the current scene seems to be 'warped' or 'rewinded and changed'.

Your client thinks you have enough energy to cast a spell, but the server disagrees and rejects your order. Once the lag spike is over, the client is updated and you can play normally. You can get the same problem with adrenaline, hp bar, or position when running (the dreaded lag teleport).

Yep, suffered the same, but it seems to be in connection with lag. It was particularily bad yesterday on Europe
