Default Virus In Trading

The other night, when I was trading, before a friend and I made a transaction, the blue screen of death popped up. He called me up saying that he had the same thing happen to him. Minutes later when he tried to trade with someone else, it happened to both of them.

When my brother was watching, he talked to his friend about it, and said he had the same problem.

I was too lazy to write down the error, but I'm wondering if any of this is happening with any of you? I cleaned out my computer, defragged, w/e. Seems to be gone. Just hopefully it doesn't cause any damage to my computer, or anyone elses.

(heh, anyone else got that aim virus too?)

You might be able to salvage some information from the windows event viewer about the crash.
Make a note of any information about crashes. Computers crash for a reason...it could be warning you of a critical problem with your machine...or indeed, the application being used.

I don't use messaging apps. Lucky me.

Every time I make a post here or GW-Online, my firewall goes nuts with port-scans being detected and blocked. Looks like someone in these forums are browsing for IP-addresses and scanning the poster PC's for any spyware backdoors.

Just an FYI: If you don't already do so, I strongly recommend getting zonealarm or other freeware firewall. A hardware router with NAT doesn't hurt either.

^^^^ True that. But nowadays, I've been finding lots of fake sites that let you download a virus or trojan instead of a firewall.

Just go to the well-established ones like www.zonealarm.com or similar. The Microsoft XP firewall isn't all that great

Zone alarm is crap, everyone in my family "had" it and we all agree.
get Kerio personal firewall.
Dont even mention norton... gah they want to control your hardware(failed unstall; reformat and your hardware still doesnt work)
My friend failed to tell me he had norton on his pc, a failed uninstall a reformat and he couldnt be on the internet for longer than 6min(winamp streaming to time it)
6min seince re/boot.

you accually had to install then uninstall to have your hardware to work again, I dont call that software, more like Firmware...

also Forums log your IP, so when your banned = your IP is banned.

oh sum pros with KPF
blocks flash(swf) and image ads from ever loading. (not ALL but pretty close, you can add it to block it)
and pop up's...
you can pretty much read up @ http://www.kerio.com/kpf_home.html

Yup. Just hopefully my baby brother doesn't get any funny ideas to get on the computer and post random things on this forum and get me banned. He's already banned 1 of my starcraft cd keys, and warcraft cd keys. A pain to pay for new ones.

Norton? I don't find any trouble with it, but I know what you mean. But it's the only thing I can use so far because we are poor. And it came with the computer, so not complaining much. I'm deciding to move back to McAfee, but I've had problems with that before. "upgrade this! upgrade that! oh no, it's expired go buy a new one."

At this present time, all software firewalls are vunerable to buffer-overrun attacks, except for CPU's with no-execute-bits and supporting O/S. Forunately, most script-monkeys don't know how to implement these correctly.

Hardware firewalls are the only semi-true defense, since buffer-overruns can't shut them down.

So in a way, all software firewalls are [email protected], but I keep one on for logging internet activity.

I have yet to reinstall my antivirus...
but my firewall ask's me what should I do on everything(I want it that way, so I catch everything its doing, Even block error reporting to MS)
see whats running on every port...
when i update a software i see what port's and address's im connected to by which software and how fast they "update"...

I regularly audit all active ports via netstat -a at the command prompt. It's a good way of catching stuff your virus scanners or spyware cleaners don't have definitions for, assuming you know what you're doing

What's the URL to your firewall software? Sounds like it's worth looking at.

ohh whats this... @ http://www.kerio.com/kpf_ids.html
Host-based Intrusion Prevention System
Modern-day worms, that hackers create to hijack computers, try to mask themselves as part of a legitimate application. They insert their malicious code into the memory space of some trusted application hoping that the new malicious code will be sooner or later executed by the processor without anyone noticing.

Host-based Intrusion Prevention System in Kerio Personal Firewall knows that code-injecting worms need to perform various types of so called operating system calls. However, as soon as the worm-injected code performs the first OS call monitored by Kerio Personal Firewall, its host-based intrusion prevention system will stop it and prevent it from executing and compromising the computer.

Kerio's Host-based Intrusion Prevention System protects a desktop computer from two types of attacks:

* Buffer overflow
* Code injection

Unlike Network Intrusion Prevention System which is signature-based and detects only known attacks and their derivatives, Host-based Intrusion Prevention System is universal as it monitors unexpected behavior rather than data content.

ZoneAlarm locked up my whole pc once. It got so bad, it wouldn't let it boot up and I ahd to reinstall windows. I am never using that again. Is this Kerio thing any good, or does it block like every other program?
