Default DirectSong removal issues

H'lo, I'd recently decided that the DirectSong pack that I had downloaded a while ago during the SF release was causing me more problems than it was doing me good, so I tried to get rid of it. I couldn't seem to find it in the add/remove program list from Control Panel, so I decided just to delete the files directly from my C drive.

However, when I look at the options in-game, Guild Wars is still looking for the installed expansion pak, and giving me an annoying error because it can't find it. What exactly could I do to remedy this situation?

Thanks in advance

yea, Direct song is not worth it and joins Game Deamons as the two game companies I dis-like at the moment.

You can disable Direct Song music in Guild Wars by removing the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\DirectSong

or, if that isn’t present, then

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DirectSong

Hope this helps

I bought all the packs on DirectSong and I kinda like the new tunes. Over 2 hours added, plus the free pack. It still gets a bit repetitive, but still also adds a lot of atmosphere. But $12 for 2 hours? That's pretty decent.

I'm not have any technical problems with it that's for sure......

The major issue I had with DS was that when switching tunes, it would cause my game to greatly lag for a moment. It messed things up when I was monking with some groups, so I'd rather have it off

Not sure why it would lag for ya. Could be related to many, many things. Soundcard perhaps, or HDD accesses taking lots of CPU. Swapping maybe? How much RAM you have? The game does not lag at all for me with the music...

I run an IBM laptop with a 64b ati onboard and I think 512mb RAM, which I'm not sure I can/want to change too soon It most probably is one of those issues, but in my opinion, the process which DS uses to play the songs makes my computer hiccup for a moment.

In either case, I've found myself listening more and more to music on iTunes while turning GW music down, so no loss

Same here. Works fine. Maybe it is because I have 2Gb ram and a decent processor. *shrug*
