In my previous post, i have done the ping test for my DNS and my router. I got 0% loss on both. So apparentally that isnt the problem. Also, i had old video drivers, but updated them to the latest, and the lag continues.

Heres my question:

When i run in most areas it does alright, but it still lags. This time i noticed that the red light on the computer goes crazy when i lag. I remember reading somewhere about that, if the light blinks when you lag you have a setting you need to change. Anybody know what it is?

If that is the case I sure would like to see a study on the cause and effects of people online in the game. To see if the A-Net servers are heavy in one area then in another. To see if this is the cause of the lags. I seem to get lag every once in awhile. I to have a fast ISP (6Mbs) A fairly heavy duty system....So I can't understand why the lag. Especially that Warp Jumping lag...really freaks me out when playing my monk. One second I think I am safe in the rear healing....then bingo I am in the front with the Warriors...

I am no network guru/geek/nerd, however, there has to be some way to study the effects of people online and the causes of their being there.

My Internet speed is 11 mbps. My system is good enough for what is required, not to mention all my stuff is set to low. Ive tested it on WEP and without, so it isnt my internet security, and ive done ping tests for my DNS and router as stated above, those dont seem to be the problem. I want to say the red light blinking had something to do with the cache or something, but im not 100% sure.

What are your system's full hardware specs? Total RAM, video card, etc?

AMD Duron, MMX, 1.2GHZ
XP Home
128.0 MB Video Memory
NVidia GeForce FX 5200 Version: 6.14.00103.8195

Need to know anything else?

The 512MB RAM probably explains everything. XP really needs at least 1+ gig RAM to run smoothly without constant virtual memory disk swaps.

512 MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce 4 Ti Series with 64MB of video memory
500 MB free hard drive space
Internet connection

I beat all, and match the RAM, me having ALL settings at low, would probably let you slide with the Min requirements, which says 256 RAM. I believe my friend runs on 512 RAM with same OS. Ill check on that.

Please also remember than various apps like virus scanners, software firewalls, pop-up blockers, anti spyware, etc... will also consume critical system RAM. 512MB gets consumed very quickly by multiple background applications. Your best bet is to drop in at least another 512MB RAM. You should notice an immediate difference (unless you have some unexpected stuff in the background like trojan backdoors, keyloggers, etc.).

Well, cant i check how much ram is being taken up? Anyways, i guess ill go with my idea of getting a whole new processor and mess.

Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, then go to the performance tab. You'll see your CPU and memory usage meters there.

Dunno about that....I have everything set to high except shadows, which annoy me for some reason...I have 512mb on XP, and it runs smoothly

Just curious... are you running any anti-viral/trojan ware, software firewalls, etc? Such apps quickly consume system resources, but to go without them these days is very risky.

I have StopZilla and Norton always running. Stopzilla takes up 14776k memory, and 6200k memory. Norton takes up 5864k. Would that even be enough to do anything?

No the versions of XP shouldn't effect the gameplay (at least noticably). It sounds to me like your system is having a problem keeping up with the information (as discribed by the solid red light, which happens to be your Hard Drive) Writing or Reading data rapidly. I would consider if you run antivirus software (Norton is a huge system resource hog) to disable it and run the game as well as any background applications such as

1) Antispyware Utilities (MS Antispyware, Giant etc) Also, if you DO NOT run anti-spyware applications, spyware may be running in the background downloading and using your internet to update themselves (which can cause system lag)
If you don't have any, get spybot S&D and Ad-Aware from www.download.com and run them

2) Printer Applications (These can keep checking for connections which can slow down systems)

3) Last but not least, Anti Virus Software. Some can really use up a lot of system resouces (Norton being our most famous) whic hcan be checking all the files that are being used (as well as changing ones while you play).

If after all this your still having problems, it may be time to upgrade ... but the specs seem okay (albeit getting outdated)

Ok i have adaware and S&D and run it everyday. Ill close all unneeded processes and test it out, let yall know what happens. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Yes...I always have Windows firewall, Etrust (EZ AntiVirus & Spyware Remover), & MSN messenger running at least...

Nevertheless, ill turn these things off, cut down on the processes, and report back what happens.

edit: Ok so pretty much its the same thing. When in towns, i lag bad, when i get outside, i still lag, but not too bad. I also noticed that my internet box never stops flashing when im playing, so maybe wireless isnt such a good idea...
