Default Major Problem!! Please Help, My Guild Wars Wont Install :( (Merged 3 threads)

hi, im pretty new to the game, i just tried to install it.

This is what happens:

1) Setup screen comes up
2) I click "Install Guild Wars"
3) A grey box comes up and it says "initiating connection to AreaNet"
4) It then asks what drive i would like to install it in to
5) I click "continue"
6) Grey box comes up and says "Downloading..."

It does move anywhere from point six, it just stays on the downloading... screan for hours with no change.

Has this happend with anyone else?
How can i fix it?
How long does the game take usualy to get past this point?

Please help me, i realy want to play the game but it wont get past that point

thanks to all who reply.

How are you connected to the internet?
Do you have a firewall or a router that might be blocking ports?

Guild Wars needs to update itself, since the store bought version is out of date. Basically, it needs to download *stuff* that will bring your version up to date so that you can play it.

Since you are stuck at the downloading screen, this implies your connection does not work. However, since you are able to post this on a forum im guessing your internet does work.

This means Guild Wars is unable to access the internet, or your connection is so slow it will take too much time and you dont see a change.

Assuming your connection isnt too slow, you may have a Firewall blocking Guild Wars. If thats the case, open you Firewall and allow the program 'Gw.exe'.

Possibly, you are using it behind a router, and the router is blocking GW, then you would have to go through your router and configure it so that it does not block GW (more complicated then just a Firewall).

I cant think of anything else that may be the problem, best of luck installing it.

Might want to list your operating system w/ service pack level and internet connection type (dialup? broadband?). Do you have a software firewall installed?

1) this is the wrong subforum, but i dont really care, the point is you need help and im here to give it!

-- like he said^^ make sure you are connected to the internet.
-- If you are using AOL or any other dial-up service, it may take about 4-6 hours to download.
-- Try shutting down your firewall
-- If you are using AOL and are not the Master Screen Name, you will have to log in under the master name. My mom had me under some parental controls, so i wasnt able to install GW until i was logged under her name.
-- ^^ Try those
