I am having a problem with my windows,a mjor problem.

I called comp solutions and they told me that my windows was corupted

and that it would cost me 25$ for inspection and 25-82$ to repair it,if anyone knows a way to fix it without the fee,I would really apreciate it

.

Here are the Probs:

1.Cannot acces any files on my desktop and in the folders.
2.All Icons on my PC are Like script looking.
3.Cannot load any CD's or floppys.(will not even pop up)

The only thing I have acces too is the internet,and most URL's don't work.

I can't play GW right now so I'm in a bad situation.

Need some advice plx ASAP

Outside of nuking your hard drive and re-installing all of your stuff, you're going to have to give A LOT more information about how your computer is behaving. From your descriptions I honestly have no idea what your symptoms even are. Sorry!

i once had a virus.. my stepdad did something like rerolling the laptop at a certain time an deleting EVERYTHING from the time u set it.

He did a system restore from a restore point. If you can boot into safe mode you should be able to access the system restore function from the start menu. It is located in accessories/system tools.

same happened with me,first my desktop locked once it turned on,then eventually it just crashed after the first menu,all i did was reformat and it worked fine,but i also switched hd's with w.d woot warranty

try this first - boot from a CD/floppy. Then run 'chkdsk /r'. This will restore any corrupt files you have. Once this is complete, remove the bootable CD/floppy and re-boot your machine.

If successful, check your antivirus software and make sure it's updated. If all of this is still unsuccessful let me know and we can continue with the next step. I'll check back later today (around 15h00 GMT) - good luck.

No offense, my friend, but that is not likely to solve the problem. If the Windows system files themselves were corrupted he would not be getting as far as he is. It is more likely that he has a corrupted system registry or a virus.

However, it's hard to tell what is really going on since the most descriptive the post gets is "can't do this" and "can't do that".

What actually happens when you try to do these things? What is the behavior? There could be a million reasons why you can't do any one thing...

You get a restore disk with your computer? (It is sad that they no longer give you an actual OS disk anymore.) You might just have to re-install that disk. Yes...we all have had to do it at some point. You will lose everything...but it should fix it. Or you can get another hard drive install that...make it your C drive by installing your OS on that. Then copy over all your data you want to save from your older hard drive then reformat that one.

This is why I always have two hard drives anymore. I save everything that is important to me on the second drive(data drive) so if I have problems then I simply reformat my C drive and be done with it.

Ah, Old Warrior Dood you are just like me. If it is important it goes on the other drive. I also have many external HD's and one of them is designated important sh!t.

Yup. If the OP isn't going to give any more information and/or isn't willing to go through a (possibly long) troubleshooting process that would be my suggestion as well. To be honest, once I get serious registry corruption on a machine I don't trust it anymore anyway.

Exactly! If it is corrupted....even if you can so-called fix it.....I would not trust it anymore either.

I've had problems like this twice in my computing lifetime. First time was on a Win95 machine, and was caused by major virus infestation (something like 1500 files), a self replicator that attached itself to every program that ran on the machine as the program was run and had itself burried deep enough that no anti-virus I ran could get rid of it. Although anti-virus could remove the code that attached itself to programs, it couldn't find the root program that kept reinstalling the virus, so I ended up reformatting. Regular use of antivirus is your friend, including active monitoring whenever you're online. You'ld be amazed at the number of seemingly harmless sites out there that have self-installing virus code embedded.

Second time was on a WinME machine. This one was cause by a corrupted registry, although I was lucky enough to be able to still use my burner to save files before I took the only action that would fix....a good ole reformat and reinstall.
