Hiper Type R 580 watt psu
Asus a8n nforce 4 sli premium
Athlon 64 x2 4200
Xfx geforce 6800 gs forceware 81.94
2X 36 gb w.d. raptors
4x512 ocz gold ddr400 ram
Windows xp pro sp2 w/all updates
Hyundai L90d+ 19" lcd
liteon dvdrw and cdrw
Lian Li pc-60b plus
Lian Li 3.5" bay temp monitor

I have 2 other pcs that it runs without any problems 1 is a p4 3.2 1 gig ram radeon x600. Other is a A64 3400 socket 754 with 1 gig and 6600 gt. My pc will play all other games just fine. Call of Duty 2, Far Cry, Half Life 2, and Wow. Any help would be appreciated.

You may have a corrupt system file, try running this command with your XP CD in the tray.

click on START --> RUN --> (CLICK OK)
Then typer in the command window --> sfc /scannow
This will go through and replace your critical system files and hopefully fix your problem problem.

While it is possible the resets may be caused by other issues, I still bet that's a heat issue.

Get yourself Prime95, and run that for a couple of hours. If the machine doesn't crash, you can exclude CPU overheating. Prime95 can be found here: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm

If your machine passes that, then it's time to start thinking of other causes, the most likely of which would be an insufficient/fluctuating power supply, but I think your computer will reset after about half an hour of Prime95 crunching...

Tried that and the next time i logged in I got an error and it asked to forward the info to anet, When i clicked on the submit button it sent it then pc rebooted. Tried it again after it rebooted and played for about 20 minutes without a hitch.

When i built pc ran prime95,cpu burn in, and sisoft sandra burn in wizard for 24 hrs and temps never hit over 39 degrees. I am using a Zalman CNPS7700-CU with AS5. To stress the vid card i ran 3dmark 03 for about 10-12 hours to break it in also and the temps never hit over 55. This is the only game it was doing it with. Could play COD2 settings on high and no problems.
thx for the help hope this has it fixed.

Sorry to hear you're having problems!

Random lockups/reboots can be the result of a lot of different things. When you're having consistant lockups and reboots you're usually (but not always) looking at one of two things: heat problems or RAM problems.

Since you think you've ruled out heat problems, I would bet you're having a RAM issue. Since you're using an Asus mainboard and OCZ RAM, you're probably not having a compatibility issue (although, who knows?). One thing that's setting off a red-flag for me is that you're using 4 modules. When you use 4 modules with an AMD64 system you're probably going to have to raise your CAS latency to 3 (or 2.5 at lowest). Also, most mobo manufacturers will recommend lowering your memory clockspeed to 333 DDR (166) instead of 400 DDR (200). Check the packaging or OCZ's web site for suggested settings for your RAM in a 4-module configuration and try those settings first. Most AMD systems run best with 2 modules instead of 4.

There is also the possibility that one of your modules is/has gone bad. To test this (and also to test your settings/timings for stability) the industry standard application is Memtest86. Download it here:

http://www.memtest86.com/

Create a bootable floppy and run the full test. If you're seeing more than a couple of errors then you've found the problem. Make sure you try the test with the manufacturer's recommended conservative memory settings before you assume that one of the modules is bad. Once you've determined that one is bad start the process of elimination to figure out which one (or pair) it is. Then it's RMA time.

If you determine that you're not having RAM problems it's time to start checking your Windows error logs to see if there's an entry indicating what caused the crash. However, I'm betting it's a RAM issue. Let me know what you find out. Good luck!

Default I had the exact same problem!!!

Just istalled win xp home and then guild wars would only run for 3-5 min then crash.Gw support told me to run Prime95 and i passed all tests.I narrowed it down to my Forceware(nvidia 6600gt)drivers 81.94 were the problem. So i went to nvidias driver archive database and downlaoded every driver from 66.93 to 81.94.The 66.93 drivers solved the problem instantly, although performance was a bit choppy, i finally used the 71.89 driver and everything worked perfectly. Good Luck!!

I've been experiencing the same lately, don't know what I did to cause it. But I do remember downloading those nVidia drivers (forceware 81.94). Might be a RAM issue though as what I'm experiencing is after 3-5 minutes, the whole PC just slows down incredibly and sometimes crashes, or after about 10 (!) minutes starts going back to normal... Never experienced it before, but annoying as hell (happened to me 3 times in a row shortly after entering UW...).

Also, might be unrelated...but whenever I move my character through the Ghostly Hero, my PC chops slightly. I have everything on lowest settings even though I can handle the higher ones (running Geforce 5700 FX).

Whats your PSU specs on the 12 volt rail? I doubt that its a power supply problem because 580 watt psu's are usually good but it could be. You'll want at least 20 amps on the 12v
